Gears of War 3 - the fastest pre-selling Xbox 360 exclusive in history - finally released in the UK last night, with a London launch event held at GAME Oxford Street.

First in line at the London event was 23-year-old John Aston from Harrow, who'd queued since 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon. The reward for his efforts? A bag full of Gears swag, handed over by the voice of Dom himself, Carlos Ferro.
Microsoft said there were 20,000 Gears 3 launch locations globally, stretching from New Zealand to Times Square.
"There's a guy who's been in line for nearly a week in New York City," said Chris Wynn, lead producer for Gears of War at Microsoft Studios. "We, too, couldn't be more excited about this launch. The story is epic, and the game is stunning. The visuals are better than any game you're going to find on Xbox or any other console."
Welch also said he expects over four million people to be playing Gears 3 by the end of the week.
This morning Epic Games designer Cliff Bleszinski confirmed campaign DLC for the shooter, which he says will be "unique and cool".

So far there's been more story in the first 5 min then the 1st 2 gears combined. The shooting is also super tight but seriously, waiting that long for a game?

That's dedication bordering on the insane. That bag of swag better have been worth the wait.
See that's just plain old insane. Why on Earth would you waste a whole week of your life waiting to get a game from a store when a pre-order could be through your letterbox before the launch date? You're not first. Nowhere near. In fact the guy in the UK played it before you.
The only reason I can see for doing it is if they're giving you thousands of pounds worth of stuff for free at their special launch event. Otherwise you've lost a lot of money from not working and all you've got to show for it is a T-Shirt, keyring and a little bag. And the game of course.
Anyway it's their life to waste.

Preordered it from Shopto and got it through the post yesterday morning- and it is sweet indeed. Now if only I can get myself fired so I don't need to go to work...

I don't think Amazon know what 'pre order' means. I won't get mine till Thursday. What the f**k is the point of pre-ordering then?

Gave up ordering games from Amazon for the exact same reason, nothing i ever pre-ordered arrived within a week of the release date. GTA4 was going to take an extra month before i cancelled the order!
