Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta kicks off next week

Get early access to DICE's shooter from September 27

The Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta is set to commence on September 29, EA has announced.

The beta will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Gamers who pre-order the digital PC version of the game from Origin and all customers that pre-ordered the limited edition of Medal of Honor will be granted early access to the beta beginning on September 27.

Here's the official word:

The beta is set in Paris on the Operation Metro map, where players work their way from lush parks on the outskirts of the city to a dark, bombed-out metro station, to the vibrant streets around the Paris stock exchange.

Two elite tactical units square off in the series' popular Rush Mode. One side takes the offensive by attacking M-COM stations while the opposing squad defends and protects.

Gamers in the beta can also log onto Battlelog, the game's free social media network that allows gamers to communicate and compete with friends, track their stats and share their progress. Battlelog extends the in-game experience to be accessible anywhere, whether on a PC, console or handheld device.

Players are also invited to join the EA Gun Club for the latest shooter news, and to receive in-game benefits including access to the M1911 pistol and distinct badges in Battlefield 3. The M1911 pistol will also be available to registered Battlefield veterans.

Yesterday EA launched the first official, full-length Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 gameplay trailer, showing off the Operation Guillotine mission.

Does anyone know the conditions for those that bought the MoH LE?

I bought it last year (New), but traded it in early this year, do I qualify to get the BF3 beta on the 27th? Seems a bit vague.

If you're on PS3/360, the beta will be downloadable from their respective stores.

'Two elite tactical units square off in the series' popular Rush Mode' yeah popular as it is one of only two modes, oh no wait we have TDM.... on smaller maps.

Looking forward to this but 3 modes WTF!! Mind you at least they do a beta

5 modes (10 if you include the hardcore setting.)

    Team Deathmatch - 24 players, 12 vs 12 with no vehicle's.
Squad Deathmatch - 16 players, 4 squads of 4 with infantry vehicles.
Conquest - 24 players on consoles/32 or 64 on PC.
Rush - 24 players on consoles/32 on PC.
    Squad Rush - 8 players, 2 squads of 4.

Ok Dodo I concede I am factually incorrect, however a handful of modes which are basically the same with fewer/greater players hardly placates the original point. Looking at other shooters, 1st person or 3rd who are at their 2/3 incarnation and the majority have a much wider amount of modes.

Why is there no free-for-all mode?

I like Team and Squad Deathmatch, But I like FFA mode just as much, and sometimes I like just being a lone wolf.

Even thuugh the game looks awesome, and I have it preordered, the exclusion of a FFA mode (which I thought would be in it) does seem abit lame, along with only 5 MP modes.

Oh well, still be great though.

FFA doesn't belong in a battlefield game. It's all about team work after all :)

How many modes do you need?

I get the feeling you're comparing it to a certain other FPS game that has like 15 modes, the problem with that is there are only 5 or 6 modes in that particular game that the community, in multiple thousands, wants to play.

Yeah that game has many game modes to cater for a far larger audience (if you look Sabotage, TDM, S+D, Demolition, CTF, Domination, Headquarters and the wager matches are still very popular after nearly a year) but it is not alone, Halo, Gears, Killzone, hell even Homefront had 3 different modes in it's first game.

I just feel it is a little limited for a title that has 2 other games under it's belt and has so much to offer in other areas. I mean can you imagine a stealthy S+D type mode, it would be epic!

Hey dude, I answer this quite a lot at the official forums which I really should pin a FAQ about it all..
Basically if you've used your online pass code, and played a few games of MOH online, you will qualify for it.
You will receive a email from EA/DICE in regards to the early access -- nearer the time of the BF3 Beta.

If you don't receive the email, contact the team at EA Support and tell them that you had not received your email, and that you have indeed played the title and whatnot, and they should be able to assist you from there.
Or contact me under my EA ID and ill get you sorted that way

Awesome, and QFT. I traded mine in a few months back because I was shocked at how poor the multiplayer was.

Craig, the only thing that you can really do is wait 48 hours when the Beta starts, what it is - is that there is a 48 hour early access for players of Medal of Honor LE and T1, but once those 48 hours are up, the beta then goes public -- anyone can join.

Now you cant "swap" your current early access for a different console.. via dice/ea but waiting that two days will get you to play it on the console you want it on. So just play the ps3 for 2 days, then go to your 360 if you like :)
