Resident Evil 4 HD gameplay trailer

Plus new screenshots to celebrate the re-launch of a classic

Capcom has sent over a Resident Evil 4 HD gameplay trailer and selection of screens to coincide with the game's PS3 and Xbox 360 release.

Resident Evil Revival Selection Screenshot
The game's scheduled for release this week, with fellow HD update Resident Evil Code: Veronica X launching next week. Both titles will cost 1600 Microsoft Points (about £13.71) or €19.99/£15.99 on the PlayStation Store.

For the few that haven't played Resident Evil 4, the game sees players taking control of Resident Evil 2 protagonist Leon Kennedy as he attempts to fight his way through cultists, mutants and brainwashed locals in a remote village in Europe to rescue the president's daughter.

Code: Veronica X takes place a few months after the events of Resident Evil 2, in which Raccoon City was destroyed. Playing as Claire Redfield, players fight for their lives during a search for her missing brother Chris on Rockfort Island.

It's great. I have never played a better zombie-game. And not any new zombie-games have come close to RE4. Nice.

Does anyone know if the PS3 version supports Move?

I played RE4:Wii and was blown away by it. The Wii-mote/Nunchuck was brilliant with this game and immersed you right into the heart of it. Always thought how cool this game would be with a camera/head tracking set up. I used to even catch myself standing to one edge of the TV trying to peek around corners

I won't be buying this as. Have played the original cube version (and the wii version) to death.

Outstanding game though. Ah, f**k it on second thoughts I probably will buy it. I just can't be bothered to delete that first sentence.

Its not a good upgrading of what is on GC or Wii an absolute classic. Unless your only experience of RE4 is the PS2 version, you'll be disappointed.

looks sweet. Not too fussed about move support, but wouldnt mind trying that out. Would love collecting trophies for this great game.

I was going to pick it up this morning, but i saw it was 1840 points,(it's 1600 points in US and i think 1300 in Canada, all depends on how strong your countries dosh is)and it has no subtitles and people are complaining about the stick controls,so as i have already finished it on the Wii,i decided i'll give this a miss,i have Gears 3 to play anyway 8)

the game has been advertised as 1,600 points for months, only 3 hours ago capcom euro threw out this promo announcing pricing of 1,600 f**king points.

they lied completely: it's 1,840 for uk gamers. 1,360 for canadians. 1,680 for germans and 1,600 for the rest of the world.

you're absolute f**king gobs**tes for this capcom. i thought this s**t was illegal by uk consumer law.

I kept 1,610 ms points back after Radiant Silvergun last week, went to get resi 4 hd earlier and the price has been artificially inflated.

i don't want to hear any s**t about exchange rates or other b*****ks. RS was advertised as 1,200 points worldwide, that's what i payed.

Resi 4 is advertised as 1,600 worldwide but because of the country of my birth i get s**t on by a multi million pound company.

sure, i'm p**sed but it's not the amount of points, it's the bulls**t that they've falsely peddled to us here in this country and i'm struggling to remember a uk only trailer saying "ah dickheads, f**k you and have a nice day. unlucky"

    at least i'd have known.

btw: @ metallicorphan. this isn't at you man, just a moan in general. soz if it comes across differently, it was not my intent.

On 2nd thoughts, I just read the Eurogamer review... :(

Resident Evil 4 is a brilliant game, but that's exactly why Resident Evil 4 HD is such a disappointment. This is no definitive version or director's cut (wouldn't that be something), but a criminally half-baked attempt to winkle a little extra cash from the still-beating heart of a classic. Resi 4 deserves better than this; Resi 4's legions of devoted fans deserve better than this; and Capcom should be much better than this.

Had a look on LIVE this morning and it was £14.99. Sure, it's a good game- but it's totally overhyped and barely recognisable as a resident evil game. Much prefer the old games- so I'll be getting Code Veronica... but I'll wait for a price drop first. Got Gears 3 to play anyway.

The thing is, though, yeah, Eurogamer is poo.

I bought it, anyway. On the 360 version, you can change the option to pay via Microsoft points, and it came to 1,380ish points in total.

Good for checking release dates though.

er, you sure man? y'mean press x to pay with points instead of a credit card at the purchase screen?

it's 1,840 ms points. i went to use my points and that's the quoted price. (unless they've fixed it in the last hour)

yep, with a credit card that's entirely accurate.

with points it's the aforementioned tag in britain. nowhere else on earth has that price though.

  19. martinawatson on 20 Sep '11 said:

I think when its on special it would be worth buying, just a touch too pricey at £15.99.................or is it?

I'll stick to me GameCube version. I've also still got the chainsaw controller.
    It's a bit rubbish though.

I think I may have been mistaken. I do apologise.

    It's a bit rubbish though.

I've still got my Gamecube, but sold my copy of RE4 (along with the PS2 version) because I was planning on getting the Wii version at some point; though I've never gotten around to actually buying a Wii.

  22. ste hicky on 20 Sep '11 said:

btw: it is the cube version isn't it with the ps2 extra content?

if not it's at least the wii version which took the ps2 version and added all of the cubes post processing, lighting, textures, particle effects, numbers of enemies, round heads for characters, higher poly count, etc... back in?

oh no. hang on. it's not the ps2 version upscaled is it? i'll be glad they messed up the pricing if so, that's a dog of a version topped only by the poor pc port.

  23. ginsin on 20 Sep '11 said:

I am almost certain that it is the Gamecube/Wii version. It's not a PS2 port. Also, it has all the extra content that's in all the previous versions.

fair enough, at least there's that i guess. thx for the reply.

still, had a read through eurogamers review at the link above (thx to that guy too) and while i ain't sayin it's scripture it makes for a sobering review:
"But surely we're all repeat players by now. (If not, where have you been? And buy this as soon as possible.) For those of us that have played it, the question is, how much? If, like me, you've been through its various versions many times and unlocked everything again and again, you just don't need to see her like this. If you enjoyed it at release and haven't been back since, seriously consider the Wii version. It'll be cheaper to get hold of, the pointer controls are great, and if anything, it looks better with soft edges.

That's the killer: Resident Evil 4 HD doesn't look better than Resident Evil 4 SD. Who would have known, but scaling back clever fogging and lighting effects (as this has done in many places) and simply exposing old textures in 1080p doesn't look that good. It's a stark sight.

Resi 4 deserves better than this; Resi 4's legions of devoted fans deserve better than this; and Capcom should be much better than this."

forget it, i'll throw the wii version on. sounds like it's still the best version available.

    Three more reviews:

    Game Informer

    Gamepro

    VideoGamer

Official Xbox Magazine has given it a 9/10, too.

Those are the only reviews, along with the Eurogamer one, that I've seen so far.

thx man, if they ever sort the pricing and bring it in line with the rest of the planet i may have a go.

I picked on this issue when first announced - even looking at the high resolution screenshots you can tell half the lighting effects that were on the GCN version are missing - this is essentially the PC version before the patches (that added lighting and post processing) - A disgrace.

  30. ste hicky on 21 Sep '11 said:

 is that the case, liveswired? i haven't bothered with screens, just made my mind up moons back to get it day 1. you all know how that worked out. :)

btw: it surprises me that cvg, a uk mag, hasn't mentioned uk gamers getting treated differently.

also, there's an easy acid test as to whether it's the cube version or not: are the cutscenes realtime or compressed vid? it may be easier to tell once you get a bonus costume, if the clothes don't change in the cutscenes when you wear the re2 outfit then it's the gimped ps2 version upscaled. the cube versions scenes were all realtime and could be manipulated.

it's old but i'm pretty sure at least 80% only played the netto, sorry, ps2 version. here's some of what went wrong in translation from cube to ps2 as it seems that some aren't aware of the chasm in quality between the 2: http://t.co/WDLCjUf

should make interesting reading though they still neglect the square heads and complete lack of particle effects, etc... that the ps2 version had.

(thx to sporkhead for the link on twitter)

  36. ginsin on 23 Sep '11 said:

According to the IGN review, it's the Gamecube version. It's most certainly not a direct port of the PS2 version, that's evident when you play the game.

Comparison video of all 4 versions.
