GAME is to sell the newly launched OnLive micro-console in the UK.

The news comes as somewhat of a shock seeing as the OnLive service is a digital-only gaming platform.

Currently the micro-console is only available as a mail order item in North America, making this the first time it's available at a brick and mortar store.

"OnLive is delighted to announce a strategic launch partnership with GAME Group plc, UK's leading videogame retailer," the firm said in a statement.

"As the first games retailer in the world to become a strategic launch partner for OnLive, GAME will introduce the OnLive Game Service to millions of customers in the UK and eventually across Europe and elsewhere, starting with GAME's ecommerce sites game.co.uk and gamestation.co.uk later this year.

"The OnLive Game System, OnLive Universal Wireless Controller and OnLive Game Service digital offerings will then be extended through the Group's 615 UK stores and integrated with the Group's popular loyalty schemes, the GAME Reward Card and gamestation Elite card.

OnLive's UK pricing model was also announced earlier today. on that by Get all the information here.

I wonder how long this lasts before Game do the same thing to this that they did to N Gage and PSP Go :)

Game - hypocritical bastards... maybe they're doing it out of spite against Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo's digital market places as they spiral down into the inevitable economic abyss.

Strange thing for GAME to do, sell a product that will result in no follow on sales whatsoever, unless they are planning to sell points or codes or something. Still seems like they are actively kicking themselves in the balls.

My local Game has just started selling multiple PSN top up cards, PS Plus sub cards, DLC cards with map packs from games like Uncharted 2 and Killzone 3, you can also buy a digital copy of LBP instore.

My problem with this is that retail is f*cking us over by forcing high digital prices on the PS Store, retail is now taking a percentage of digital sales by selling digital goods instore, which until retail is dead will surely lead to digital content prices on the PS Store increasing to make up for the percentage retail takes by selling digital content instore. Where is the benefit to the customer?

I guess this is what will happen with OnLive content eventually.
