A new pole estimates that around 28 percent of 3DS owners feel the system's 3D effect detracts from the gameplay experience.

Just over 60 percent of the 1600 polled were aware of Nintendo's handheld - which is apparently an improvement over last year - but only 28 percent of those people were aware that the handheld didn't require 3D glasses. D'oh!
While 22 percent of those polled thought the 3D effect improved gameplay, 28 percent disagreed, saying they thought it detracted from the gaming experience. 13 percent of people even preferred to flick the 3D off completely.
23 percent did, however, believe that the ability to perceive depth would give them a competitive advantage in games.
Interpret SVP of strategy and analysis Dan Casey said personal experience with 3D was key, and that satisfaction among those who have experienced the effect is 'generally high'.
The most significant challenge for 3D, he went on, is simply education. "A theme you'll see over and over again is just the need to educate people," said Casey.
The 3DS has soared back to the top of sales charts since its price drop in August, following disappointing launch-window sales.

I find the viewing angle for the 3d way too small, the 3d does look good but its so hard to maintain a perfect position that I just have the 3d slider off most of the time.

I'd be in the 'swsitch off the 3D entirely'
A more interesting question would be how many 3DS owners think the console is yet another fat waste of time & money from Nintendo?
Hands up.....

Well Nintendo do like to try new things. They cant get them right every time now.

I actually turn it off all together. Unless im playing a new game I will check it out in 3D for a while, otherwise I turn it off. The graphics are alot smoother without the 3D.

28 percent is still a minority... For me, 3D was a major reason for buying a 3ds and I never turn it off. I don't have a 3D-capable TV, but now I have at least 1 device that can do 3D-effects to satisfy my occasional cravings for them.

well considering 000.1% of people who own one was asked.
im pretty sure the "poll" can be construde as inconclusive.
im pretty sure i wasnt asked. and im pretty sure the 5 of my mates who have one wern't asked.
it works fine, 3d s great on it, doesnt hurt my eyes. (no more then playing f1 2011 for a whole full length race has hurt my eyes).
stop trolling, and give us some real news.

Do you know how polls and studies work? It's not trolling.

I bought a 3DS a month ago when it went down in price, I only have 1 game for it right now and that's Ocarina 3DS which is my all time fav game and I do have it on the N64 and Gamecube but I whack my 3D to half and it looks quite nice, sure the battery sucks with it on but its a "reasonable" 3D level for me.

And the people polled who actually liked the 3D effect constitute an even smaller minority....

I turn it off completely. I didn't buy it for 3D because I just don't care about 3D. When I tell people this, they are usually confused and question why I bought it in the first place. I bought it for it's games, better hardware and connectivity, and the Gameboy Virtual Console, which to me was worth it.

"A new pole"?

Hit and miss for me, mostly miss. Cut scenes look really good in 3D, but when you are really engaged in gameplay, it's easy to move the unit out of it's 3D sweet spot.
ChrisIW on 26 Sep '11 said:
Half the problem is that people are too thick to tweak the 3D slider until it's just right, and every game seems to have its own "sweet spot". It takes literally 1 second to adjust every time you put a new game in. Honestly, people aren't happy unless they've got something to moan about
Also for what it's worth, the 3DS has made me far more interested in buying a 3D TV at some point. Yes 3D is a novelty, but it's a pretty nice novelty IMO.

I love the 3ds. The 3D effect is brilliant. I wouldn't give handhelds the time of day but the 3DS is something special, because of the 3D.
I can't believe this console hasn't stormed the world. People just don't seem to understand it.
dm_1782 on 26 Sep '11 said:
Who cares really? I mean I like the 3D if you dont like it turn it off and shut up. I dont use it all the time but when I want to use it I will hence the reason why the option is there. I just think people make too much of a big deal about this. Its a feature of the console but I wouldnt see it as the consoles major selling point. The graphical jump alone is enough for me and the fact that hopefully we will be able to stream programs and movies is another bonus. The 3D element is the icing on the cake, and if you dont like icing dont eat it.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to survey results.
Im signed up to a survey site that pays me to take survey's, and believe me half the stuff they survey me about i havn't got a clue about so make it up just to get paid.

Fair enough, although to be frank the 3D effect/gimmick was/is touted as the main selling point of the 3DS by Nintendo.

i only use 1/3 of 3d effect but still i love it. without it 3ds is only as good as psp. i found it a lot better to keep console a little away from my eyes at a right angle so they don't get exhausted so fast.

It's only 28% - more than likely PSP and Vita fanboys and not 3DS owners atall.
I find the 3D completely adds to the experience. It is amazing and intense - it really adds an extra layer to the gameplay and immersion. Infact I always play with 3D on full in every game.
Dual Arm 11s, 128MB FCRAM and Dual PICA200s are more than enough for the 3DS - it is definitely not lacking horsepower - and at 2x the power of the Wii it's more than enough for a portable
Anyways if you want unadulterated power in your hands - surely holding out for a Vita would've been the wise option?
Fr33Kye on 2 Oct '11 said:
Uhmmm are you serious? I think the poll implied they asked 3DS OWNERS. 22% like the 3d, 28% feel it takes away from the experience.
