FIFA 13 has some 'great ideas' lined up - Rutter

Fans will be "totally blown away" by the next few years, plus free digi-mag inside!

FIFA 12 is landing in the UK on Friday so if you haven't read our FIFA 12 review yet then should probably get on that as soon as possible.

But that's not all we've got for you. In a special edition of CVG Presents, we're bringing you more insight into FIFA 12 and the team at EA Sports behind the beautiful game.

Thinking ahead? Read our most-wanted list of FIFA 13 features - and give us your own.

As part of the package, we sat down with FIFA producer David Rutter who talked to us about the future of FIFA.

Needless to say he's excited:

"We've got so much stuff we still want to do. EA SPORTS Football Club this year is brilliant, but there's even stuff we wanted to do this year that we didn't get to," said Rutter.

"When people get to see that in the next few years, they're going to be totally blown away.

"And gaming-wise, it's football, you know? Every game I watch, no matter how crap the teams, there's always something where I think 'we have got to do that'," he continued.

"This year we've got players stepping into volleys, fantastic off the ball movement, pro player intelligence, and there's still more to come. I think we're delivering a brilliant game this year, and we've got some great ideas up our sleeve for next year too.

You can get the whole interview and loads more delivered directly to your eyes right now. All you have to do is download a digital copy of the CVG Presents FIFA 12 supplement.

    Sports Game Design 101:

    1: Take last year's game
    2: Fiddle with team rosters
3: Add a few blades of grass

    Job's a good 'un.

That analogy may be true of other sports games but certainly can't be applied to FIFA 12.

Why?its only recently EA has bothered with the gameplay on FIFA.

EA already plugging FIFA13 and FIFA12 hasn't even shipped.

They spent two years working on the new Impact engine for FIFA 12, so to say it's just a roster change is flat out bolderdash, I'm specifically talking about FIFA 12 as it's the most recent example.

By crap teams I can only presume he is talking about Sunderland.

I'm hoping for some big improvement to the online pro clubs feature as it's probably the mode I played last year.

I have a feeling that they'll take the Fight Night route though and put some sort of storyline into the game.

I presume one of the updates will be Carlos Tevez randomly throwing a tantrum and refusing to play. Frankly, I can see it being a bit of a pain in the arse but, hey, we want realism!

It saddens me to see FIFA 13 being talked about before 12 has even been released yet. It's like saying they had to hold off adding some new features to 12 so that they can make 13 look like an actual step up. Basically Apple's system for their Iphones.

This is kinda like saying yeah we had a load of good ideas but will happily hold onto a few to fill the next few games, oh and also the DLC released for 2012 will just be some old s**t.

    Button it.

Jeez what a bunch of cynics.

For all you know these 'great ideas' may have only being conceived three weeks ago. They're not going to delay a 10-15m selling game are they?

Would Sony delay Uncharted 3 five weeks from launch because Naughty Dog suddenly had a great idea? Of course they wouldn't, they'd tell ND to put it in Uncharted 4.

Honestly, the EA hate on this site is just out of control now and just as boring as the CoD hate. I get the hate for Online Pass and subscriptions but hating on EA for saying "we've got a couple of great ideas for future titles", for telling FIFA fans that the futures bright, well it's pathetic.

@KK: Hilarious post, hopefully you can see why.

I don't hate EA,quite the opposite actually,i can see why people who are buying fifa12 might be a little peeved though. If they've got ideas then great bit if like you say they thought of them 3 weeks ago then why not wait until say 3 or 4 weeks after release before making a public statement like this?

I have no idea, I remember Insomniac announced DLC on the day Resistance 3 was released, I don't understand that, that came across to me ill thought out and poor in regards to timing considering they'd spent three years on R3 (a whole year more than the previous sequel.)

For me this is a making a mountain out of a molehill situation, Rutter is just telling us what we already know and I think it's fair to say that the vast majority of people that will buy FIFA 12 will A.) Never hear of this. B.) Buy FIFA 12 even if they did hear of this. C.) Buy FIFA 13 if they enjoy FIFA 12.

This news means nothing to me and it won't to millions of others either because most people base their purchases on the product thats put infront of them, not what potentially could've been.

Can't speak for anyone else but great ideas or not, if FIFA 13 is crap then I simply won't buy it.

There are only two direction these great ideas could take with FIFA being a game that cannot be delayed. 1. Toss in half arsed/rushed implementations of great ideas into '12 or 2. Work on these ideas for an extra year, perfect em, polish em up and put em in '13.

    I'll take the second option.
