Former Mythic boss starts casual studio

"I'm tired of strings and being told what to do by other people," says ex-EA man

Mark Jacobs, co-founder and former boss of Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning developer Mythic Entertainment, has established a new studio, City State Entertainment.

Located in Fairfax, Virginia, the social-focused studio quietly opened in March.

Jacobs told Forbes the developer's working on an unannounced game for iOS and Android devices, and "possibly PC," to be released later this year.

"We're hoping to carve our own niche," he said, "but at the end of the day, what we really want to do is just make great, fun games for everyone."

"Social games are certainly a lot easier to develop than a traditional game, let alone an MMO. And because of the faster development cycle and the lower costs, we have a lot more freedom in what we want to do."

Jacobs abruptly left EA-owned Mythic two years ago over creative and managerial disputes with the parent company.

"At the end of the day, when you take other people's money, you have to do what they tell you to do; I've done that before, and a lot of times it's cost me," he said.
