A Microsoft patent filing made public this week suggests Kinect could be used to estimate a user's age and block access to unsuitable media content.
Originally filed in 2010, it proposes using a 3D depth camera like Kinect's to digitally measure the proportions of a person's body and estimate age based on the data, Geek Wire reports.
It would use measurements such as head width to shoulder width, and torso length to overall height, with an override feature available to adults with seemingly childlike proportions.
The system would then be able to automatically restrict access to television shows, movies and games based on their rating and the user's age.
Kinect can break records again this Christmas with the help of big brands such as Disney, Microsoft marketing director Michael Johnson told CVG at GamesCom in August.
