Gears of War 3 might only be in its second odd week on sale but that won't stop us from casting our wishful gazes to its inevitable sequel and dreaming up what we'd most like to see from the next entry in Epic's blockbuster franchise.
Epic hasn't so much as whispered the words 'Gears of War 4' in any official capacity but we'd be more than surprised if another one didn't materialise a few years from now, and so would Gears designer Cliff Blezinski.
In an interview prior to the Gears of War 3 launch Epic's favourite son said "it would be completely dumb to not do another one" as long as it performs well.
Given that it racked up over three million sales in its first week of availability we're pretty confident in our not-really-a-stretch prediction.
So, what do we want to see in the next game? Have a look below and find out...
OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW
As new kids on the block Delta-One were a great bunch of characters. Physically they embodied everything about Gears of War's weighty, brutal gameplay style and managed to be charismatic and bombastic at the same time. However, as time has passed those same traits have become a little less charming.
By the end of Gears of War 2 we'd pretty much had our fill of Marcus' constant shouting, Baird's unrelenting sarcasm and Cole's "something, something, something, baby. WOO!" dialogue.

Fortunately Gears of War 3 managed to pull it together, it had a better tonal balance which in turn meant the emotional moments felt less jarringly out of place. For the most part we felt the game concluded the story and character arcs in a satisfying way. It was a good send off for Delta-One.
In Gears of War 4 we're hoping Epic brings in a fresh set of faces and gives a little more thought to how they'd like them to develop in the long run. It would be the perfect opportunity to ease off the 'bad ass marine' theme they've milked dry over the last few years and introduce a little more character variety. One thing's for sure, we've had enough of Dom's whining and moping about.

Fook that. As much as I love Gears 3, I want the Samaritan demo to be their next project.

Gears 1, 2 and 3 were brilliant...for coop. Grab a few friends, beers, munch and you've got a good night on your hands.
However, Gears as good as it was, was it really ground-breaking though? I mean, it was fairly confined, cover shooter with enemies that pop out, shoot etc. Im not bashing the game in a way not all because it was a great story, experience and what they achieved with the series is tremendous but...it seems that we've seen it all before...
1) Obviously new story, characters and enemies...did carmine survive btw. That guy seem to get alot of stick but i quite liked him.
I'd like to see in the next game, it shifting from different squads perceptive/journey
2) Keep horde and especially beast. Nothing better than two berserkers on a rampage.
3) Lego Gears please...you know that would be something special
4) Slight more open world and not confined to set pieces to move things along
5) More chainsaw/weapon of choice hacking inside a humongous insect
(Puts on serious face...joking) If all else fails, could do LP2 twist-global climate shift and you have Gears facing...CAVEMEN (please, feel free to add to) and rearrange delta into alted
Above all, build upon that atmosphere, coop experience and fun. Congrats on the series so far!

Agreed. Plus, apart from doing a prequel, where can they possibly take the Gears story? Maybe I missed something in the ending, but it all seemed definitively over to me.

While I agree that Gears of War 3 was a phenomenal game that blew my expectations out of the water, I do believe that the story is well, completely over.
Do I want a game 30 years forward in time where MarcusxAnya spawn (isn't she barren anyway?) run around killing the remnants of locust that somehow survived again? No.
Do I want a Simcity style game where we reconstruct everything bit by bit, like a less fun Horde mode? No.
Do I believe the franchise could even possibly have a fourth game? Yes.
Why do I say yes? Well, we could be given a prequel style game that gives us a really good look at the Pedulum Wars, and while I think that would be a good idea there's always the argument that it's already been done with Halo Reach. Can Epic really do a successful prequel without it being compared to one of the best prequel games some of us have ever played? I don't know...
It's yet to be seen, but PLEASE Epic, no more Humans vs Lambent/Locust games, they would just ruin a perfectly good story. Do you really want something compared to the legions of Halo fans who are wondering why the hell Master Chief is suddenly back in business?

I don't want GoW 4, period. Bland, over hyped games are bland and over hyped.

I don't think legions of Halo fans are wondering why MC's back. I think anyone who saw the legendary ending knew he'd be back, as Bungie did a good job of leaving enough mystery in there, that it would be a shock if there weren't any more Halo games.
Read the Cryptum novel and you'll see how much scope there still is to tell more stories in the Halo universe.

Why not stop? Same with Uncharted (If it gives some closure), God of War and infamous. Oh no wait lets just milk the s**t out of everything.

Don't want new characters. That's fine as DLC. Stick with the same crew in a series of prequels (inc. Hoffman and Bernie), with switching between Marcus/Dom and Cole/Baird stories seeing as they didn't know each other before Gears 1. Would love a Pendulum Wars game and E-day game.
And if you don't like the games, don't buy them, ignore their existence and don't waste your and our time commenting on topics based on said game. Let the developers make the games for the millions of people that DO love them and get on with your life.

I am probably one of the biggest gears fans out there (apart from the vs multiplayer). The story, single player action, co op and horde make it brilliant as far as I am concerned, but I have to say that I don't want to see any more gears this gen. Make a new game one of the launch titles for the next xbox. That probably would convince me to buy a new console on day 1. Keep the DLC coming though please.

Don't know about gears 4 but what we all know is that theres a few dlc already planned to be released due to the season pass, and a hell of a lot of unanswered questions, what were the sires? what did marcus's dad want to tell him about myrahh? what was on the disk that baird was given at the end of the game? all the stories of the pendulum wars and E-DAY, they could make another game like a prequel but the only issue with that is, i can't see it as being much better than gears 3 anyway, they have gotten everything this game could possibly offer, a safer bet would be to release DLC which has event's placed as spin off's about different times, proof of this comes with the DLC RAAM's Shadow coming out in a few days setting a story from before gears 1, this seems like the most logical choice
