Battlefield 3 PC leaked to torrent sites

Highly-anticipated game makes its way online a week ahead of release

The PC version of Battlefield 3 has been leaked to various torrent sites over a week before its official UK launch on October 28.

Battlefield 3 Screenshot
Dark Side of Gaming says the download is 9.96GB in size and offers a fully playable version of the shooter's single player campaign.

We've contacted publisher EA for confirmation of the report and any additional comment.

Earlier today, developer DICE revealed the final multiplayer maps that will ship with Battlefield 3 at launch.

Last week, EA released a Battlefield 3 trailer focusing on the game's destruction gameplay.

You really should stop posting these stories CVG. All it does is inform people that they can potentially pirate something early. If you didn't tell us there'd be no temptation because most just wouldn't know.

folk downloading this will probably go out and buy it anyway for the mp... it's just less hassle.

No point in even downloading the torrent, it wont work since the only way to start the singleplayer is on battlelog and guess what battlelog is currently offline till release, so sorry guys nothings happening!

im sure the campaign will be nice, awesome even, but it pales in comparison to the multiplayer in every aspect imo

yeah, the pirates never thought of that.

next you'll be telling us you need the disc in the tray...

BF3 may have a great campaign, you talk as if you've played it. That attitutde is what's killing single player gaming and keeping CoD alive.

Well since the main menu for battlefield 3 sp is battlelog i dont really see how you could play the game without it

I have it on preorder, I won't be pirating it. And I'll be playing it for the single player campaign, I don't play multiplayer games.

They have actually confirmed that there will be a way to access SP without battlelog because not everyone has the internet or it may be down when they fancy playing.

Riiiiiiight. If it was that easy piracy would be a non-issue.

The pirated version of this will be mostly useless to the general public as most will be interested in the online element.

Is this how the PC gaming community repay DICE for making a game focused on the PC platform?? SCUM BAGS, thankfully, its only a minority of PC gamers. If you want PC gaming to die, go ahead and download anyway

It's not "if" but "when" this $h!t was going to happen. The same thing happened with Crytek, Infinity Ward, Epic, Ubisoft, ect, ect, ect, ect... By the time the real players get this, the hackers and cheaters will have already carved it up and ruined the experience. Since you must be online you can't avoid these people and it will be a constant battle to keep the game clean. DICE made great emphasis on the "PC" version of the game so they said, and this is how they're treated by the very community that they stood up for? Not good!

It's just as easy to pirate game for the consoles.

While I don't condone the practice I know a few people who have modded PS3's and Xbox's. One fella has a 500g PS3 crammed with ripped games.

Surely you'd think these devs would store all of the system files in some type of internal LAN server that is NOT connected to an external connection?

Yeah that's right because piracy is only on the PC and it's only PC gamers that pirate games

It's just funny to hear PC gamers alwasy pointing toward the console when this topic presents itself, "but the console...", "it's just as easy on the console"..., "the console has"... "there is piracy on the console"... Listen, piracy is RAMPANT on the PC and is ruining the platform. There is no quality control to speak of and it's up to the devs to keep the games free from hackers, cheaters, thieves, botters, modders from ruining the experience. Time is money and eventually they will leave it to the wolves and the gamer who just wanted to play a good game gets shafted. The PC version of the game has been stolen, so quit trying to bring the console into this.

No, what's even funnier is the fact that the majority of multiplat games are available on torrent sites for the consoles considerably sooner than the PC version.

Almost every game released on all the major platforms are available to torrent, Its only because its a big game that this has even made news as anything with battlefield or modern warfare in the title generates s**tloads of hits.

I'm actually 40, which leads me to believe, given your child like manner, that you're not as old as you claim. Christ, my teenage nephews conduct themselves with more maturity than you've shown.

If, however you are in your forties, as you claim, then your gaming knowledge, particularly where piracy is concerned, is lacking somewhat.

You're actually 15 and whine like a prepubescent 11yr old girl, eeehhn, "the console"... "but look at the console"... eeehn... dude, STFU! I've been gaming since Pong and Atari punk, and your gaming knowledge consists of nothing more than fanboy rambling. Piracy on the PC is rampant and a scourge. It's also a major reason why nobody want to develop for the system. Don't like it, don't care, the game is available to be stolen on the PC.

Funny, that's exactly the way I feel about the Multiplayer aspect. Why should I "go play something else"? I could say the same about the Multiplayer such as "why don't you go and play cod" for example, but that would be stupid as everyone has their own preference and games they like. Imo for example I think its a good thing the game apparently ships on two discs as I can then use the Multiplayer disc as a beer mat whilst I enjoy playing the proper (Single Player) game.

As for the article, how is it that every major release seems to be leaked onto the net before release? Do these software houses/publishers know they have these sort of scumbags working for them who would for some bizarre reason rather risk their jobs by losing the company money than be grateful they work in a great industry and have a job many of us can only dream about?

As for piracy on PC vs Console, yes it does happen on console but its far more of a problem on Pc due to the fact any Pc can play a pirated game, wheas some modification is required on a console to play a pirated game - which 1) can be quite technical and something not every console owner will know how to/is willing to do, and 2) you run the risk of being banned from Psn/Xbox Live etc vs running a pirated game on Pc where its virtually undetectable as its not a closed platform.

Tbh, the only truly effective solution which I can think of is to abolish the pc as a gaming platform - regrettably something which is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

If developers go bust through greedy pc piracy then us console gamers will also suffer in the process. This is part of the reason why I‘d like to see OnLive become the dominant force in pc gaming.
