Sony is to buy Ericsson out of the companies' decade-old joint mobile phone venture.

Ericsson also said it gives Sony ownership of "five essential patent families relating to wireless handset technology".
"We can more rapidly and more widely offer consumers smartphones, laptops, tablets and televisions that seamlessly connect with one another and open up new worlds of online entertainment," said Sony boss Howard Stringer.

This was always going to happen, it hasnt been the success that both parties would have imagined.
I wonder how the MS and Nokia partnership will pan out?

Ooooooh I thought it would happen, but not so quickly. Maybe the Xperia Play 2 can actually be a real 'PlayStation Phone' now? One that plays PSP games and maybe even Vita games? As is my fantasy?
I can dream.

I never did like the 'SONY Ericsson' name really. A phone with just the name 'SONY' on it would look cool lol

Don't know, but I've just registered to receive the new Nokia Lumia (I like the look of it) when that comes out next month, as Orange are giving away the 360 S with it. I can finally retire my refurbed launch 360/hoover!
