Battlefield 3 woes continue as Origin Activation stalls

Getting the game today? Hopefully you'll be able to play it

Battlefield 3's turbulent launch continues as gamers struggle today to activate their copies of the game with Origin.

Battlefield 3 needs to be authorised via an Origin activation before it can be played online, but Origin's activation service has gone down, leaving those who are yet to activate their copies unable to play the game.

The official Battlefield 3 Twitter feed has responded to the wave of complaint, saying: "Origin activation is down at the moment. We are aware of the issue and working on it. Thank you for your patience."

It has, in the last few minutes, updated with: "We are currently trying to resolve the matter! We will update the community asap," but refuses to answer questions of how long the downtime will last.

This is the latest in a string of server-related woes for the blockbuster shooter, after Xbox 360 online play spent hours offline on launch day, and the Origin and Battlelog sites suffered intermittent problems.

BF3 is, however, worth every second of the wait, so stick with it chaps. You will have a blast once EA irons out the kinks.

My copy for the 360 arrived early from Amazon yesterday and I've been having some issues with matchmaking but the server browser works pretty well. My issues may stem from O2 Broadband changing my NAT settings.

Have to say though much better than the beta, you can't deny that vehicles are key to what makes Battlefield great!

Managed to get mine activated (after 30 minutes!) but of course they've imposed a region time lock :x

God can this get any worse? Although perhaps its retribution for basing the marketng campaign solely on insulting an easy target though

there were Xbox 360 server issues yesterday,it was EA's fault, not MS and may not be your Broadband's fault either

Absolute shambles! Been trying to install this game for 2 hours now but Origin wont let me. I really wonder why I bother buying the latest PC titles sometimes when I could probably get a pirate version off the net and have none of this hassle

Been playing SP since this morning bar the odd glitch its great, spent hour and half trying to do coop and it wont work at all when trying to play with a friend. EA chocked it up to server overload. The multiplayer is really buggy, lag, people not taking hits, dc for no reason. Not to mention there seems to be an issue with random freezing for a few seconds when no action is taking place lol

I bet they wouldn't have had registration issues with steam, ha, I'm trolling! Looking forward to getting the game tomorrow... hope the issues are sorted by then!

Once again paying customers are screwed, ignored and not even told how long they will have to wait. Wonder how EA would react if I kept my payment details back like that......

I can see the banner right now in Battlelog.

I am really enjoying the single player at the moment actually. Not really sure the criticism about it is that justified. It's a hell of a lot of fun. I have the gfx on Ultra too and it runs beautifully. Graphics are mind blowing and like CVG stated, the sound is awesome. :)

Everyone should've expected problems but not being able to freaking install the damn game is pretty bad.

This is what Gabe Newell was talking about! People turn to piracy because of poor service like this.

A turbulent launch is key to success these days, it keeps the game in the headlines

ex. Dead Island with the releasing 360 code on Steam and the “Feminist Whore” debacle.

Much like you friend, i got mine today from shop to.net and have been playing the awesome single player the majority of the day. But decided to go online and then the problems started. Couldn't join a quick match after so many tries, so i used the server browser. The ones that say EA on them wont let me in at all, but the DICE ones put me in a queue and i eventually have got in a game as i type this. Have been in this server since 10 oclock hahaha, don't wanna leave it in case i don't get back in for ages

Enjoying the game, very harshly criticised campaign, but the multiplayer is undeniably fantastic :D

I haven't bought a single game in the last 3 years that hasn't had at least a few issues on release. Why are people suprised? This is the norm now, DICE are no more to blame than anyone else. At least they tried to minimise problems (BETA), unlike most developers.

This is what you all get for playing the same crap year after year & not supporting original titles! Suck s**t!

That's just killing PC gaming. And no, it won't solve any problems; you won't be able to play online. Stop being ridiculous. No-one here supports or even condones piracy. You'll be more welcome elsewhere if you feel the need to promote/encourage piracy.

Er, no. Most people jumped on the Battlefield bandwagon with the last BC2. Which isn't exactly year-on-year. It's only 2 games and there was a 2-year gap, unlike /some/ other titles.

I'm p**sed! Fisrt off my code for Karkland pack says it's been used already and then the servers are down pretty much as soon as I got home. When I did get to play there was lag spikes that push you back a few steps, which led to a few cheap deaths.

If they don't sort this quick every new customer they have gained will be trading for MW3.

I'm absolutly loving it so far (hour of single player hour of multiplayer) the negative press it's received lately lowered my expectations but it's everything that I hoped it would be no issues whatsoever, ps3 version.

played it all day yesterday on the PS3 and had not a single problem. online is immense with the size of the maps. never gonna touch CoD again unless they strip it back and start again.

the sound in 5.1 is amazing

  23. DonnerKebab on 28 Oct '11 said:

This isn't DICE's fault, it's EA and their lousy servers. I don't recall a single EA game without this problem. Constant disconnects, if you can even get on a server that is... and it'll get even worse today with everyone's european pre-orders arriving.

Is the reason for this cost cutting (not enough servers) or what? Would be interesting to know.

The game itself is fantastic (when you get one).

So let me get this straight, you think as a paying customer that its right for me to spend £33.00 on this game and not be able to install it on my PC? You think it is right for EA to spend millions & millions of dollars hyping the sh*t out of this title for months on end and then come up with a lame excuse of 'unprecendented demand' becuase Origin cant cope/ crap EA servers?

As an honest paying PC customer I'm sick to death of being treated like sh*t with the crap that comes with PC installations. Have you every tried installing Gears of War or GTA4 on PC? Dont even get me started on Ubisoft as I refuse to purchase their titles anymore. Fact of the matter is I dont even get involved with downloading titles illegally, in fact most of games I get are either via Shopto.net or downloaded via my Steam account. The simple truth is though if I spend money on a product I expect to be able to use it, not spend hours looking at a plastic box.......
