Battlefield 3 - 10 million copies already shipped

EA boss says DICE's shooter is "off to a fantastic start on sales and quality"

Electronic Arts has already shipped ten million copies of Battlefield 3 to retail.

The game launched in the US on Tuesday and in Europe today, and EA CEO John Riccitiello said during an earnings call last night that it was "off to a fantastic start on sales and quality".

"We shipped 10 million units to retail and we are already receiving reorders. The data is still early but sell-through is strong.

"... The results have been tremendous, thanks to the superb quality of the title produced by our DICE Studio in Stockholm, and the world-class marketing executed by our teams globally," he added.

"Our marketing made adept use of YouTube where 13 million people have viewed our trailers and on Facebook where we have 2.1 million fans. Battlefield 3 PR was everywhere, and on launch date, in North America alone, more than 8,400 stores opened early to sell the game. We couldn't be happier with the launch of Battlefield 3."

Earlier this week, analyst Michael Pachter said he expects Modern Warfare 3 will sell twice as many copies as Battlefield 3.

See what we thought of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the game in our Battlefield 3 console review.

I just hope they take sales away from CoD. I'm a massive CoD fan but until there is a worthy competitor to CoD we will not ever get dedicated servers.

Beware of the word "shipped"! "shipped" is not "sold"! The console manufacturers use this word quite a bit to give the illusion that their console is selling VERY well or outselling the competition, when in fact that is probably not the case. It's an attempt to mislead without misleading..."what, we never said that"! So to put 3-10 MILLION SHIPPED in LARGE, BOLD, LETTERS in front of an article an attempt at the same thing! Seeing how bad this game looks on the console, Call of duty has nothing to worry about!

I have had a good play of it yesterday and it's excellent. Had the week off work so been waiting for this.(No, not the week of just for BF3) I'll be trying some more multiplayer tonight with my bro in America. See how good that works from either side of the Atlantic. :)

Went to modnight launch and was playing til half 6 this morning, absolutly amazing game. the maps are brilliantly designed, DICE really out did themselves. its a little iffy with matchmaking. the way teh squad structure is can lea dto you not being in same squad as friends but u can actually choose different squads to join now so u all just leave teh squad your in and form your own under the many 'call signs' you can also filter chat between off/squad/team. meaning if your in a tank with someone else you can talk to them. they've made so many improvements in the way multipolayer handles i hope DICE get some recognition for the improvements they've made to teh whole multiplayer game world cos its such a leap from bad company 2

I think it looks great on the consoles. Some of it may be because people are comparing to the PC version which is the lead platform for this game. It's bound to make it look worse than it actually is. I think DICE have done great on hardware that is a couple of years old.

I am one of those people that don't actually think there is need for a new consoles from either Sony or MS just yet.

I don't think CoD should need to worry either. They are quite different games multiplayer-wise, but it will be nice if they feel as though they need to up their game after BF3's release. Especially multiplayer on PC. Much better expreience on dedicated servers.

It looks absolutely fine on PS3, don't understand why idiots are comparing the PC version to the console versions. Yes we know the PC version is light years ahead, but we don't want to hear your s**t talking so f**k off. Getting it on PC at Xmas or January anyway.

I went against my better judgement and purchased it for the PC, and now I can't even play the damn thing!! The graphical glitches and other "technical" issues still plague this version, so it's not all that it's made upto be!

They have shipped 10 million to retail and are already taking reorders. That's a good start. They had around 3million pre-orders so first week sales are pretty strong, and rightly so, I've been hammering the 360 version and it's awesome.

Why some muppets have to start with the gum flapping is beyond me. It's almost as if the urge to be a tit is too strong to resist.

Just take the story for what it is, and stop being do negative.

Trust me mate, get it. The game is amazing. Only problem is finding a multiplayer game due to hi demand from the servers. Xbox and PC seem to be having the hardest time of it, PS3 seems to be ok. If u get into a game, stay in it, thats my plan hahaha

Well done DICE, great job, quality game from quality developers. 360 version

MW or uncharted might only ship 6 million, but could still outsell Battlefield.

Posting a story about shipping has no bearing on how well a game is selling.

GTA4 sold out in some places, but didnt ship 10 million on day one.

ive started to notice an ongong theme here cvg.

"lets post a pointless story to either flame bate or get arguments"

    nice.

Anyway, mate has it for ps3, said its good so far! - am waiting for xmas unfortunatly. roll on mw3 and skyrim.

Me too, only the price is still a bit too steep for me rght now. Sadly, like it or not, I've no choice but to wait until the price comes down a bit.

I sold my PS3 copy today, not buying it for PC that's for damn sure now. I hate the campers in every game, be it Rush, Conquest, Team Deathmatch, whatever. Single player is garbage, seems they've just copied Black Ops. Co-op puts you against wave after wave of enemies, that's not fun, that's annoying. The Battlelog system also doesn't work, signed up online, did the e-mail authorisation and all that crap, went to look at my stats on PS3, says I don't have a Battlelog so again, whatever. All in all, I'd give it 5/10 because it works and has semi decent graphics, that's it. There's a review score DICE, judge that one for yourselves. Never buying a Battlefield game again.
