Pirated copies of Modern Warfare 3 are reportedly spreading across the States, ahead of the game's November 8 release.
Activision is apparently chasing down those found to be playing the game, turning up at their doors and asking them to delete pirated copies or face a $5,000 fine and potential permanent online ban.
In the last few weeks, both Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City were leaked to torrent sites pre-release.

I can't believe this story for a moment. It's a multi-disk Steamworks title, meaning any attempt to use it without all the media would fail spectacularly, especially if it's not Disk 1 (i.e. the disc that holds the installer).

You see what you've done there CVG is taken two stories and mush them into one.
The first is about a guy who's stolen the second disc of MW3 for the PC from a shipping container and has leaked it online.
The second is about some people who have recieved their legally purchased copies early and have then had reps from Activision coming to their house asking them to hand them over or get a $5k fine.

Looking forward to this more than my BF3 copy at the moment. Mine arrived yesterday on launch, not really impressed to be honest. Graphics on PS3 are OK in single player, terrible in multiplayer, multiplayer itself bit of a clusterf**k with enemies headshotting you with sub machine guns from across the map, haven't tried co-op yet. Am 90% sure will trade in before MW3 is out and will get that instead. I know what I'm getting with MW games.

I agree with you mate. Was severly disappointed with the SP, graphics and destruction (although seeing how we only saw high-end PC footage for ages probably raised my expectations too high). Looks like MW3 will offer the more enjoyable SP for me however BF3 multiplayer is the definite choice for me. Just cannot stand all the unbalanced features like killstreaks present in MW.
