Battlefield 3 - Xbox 360 version dominates UK sales

Game outperforms Medal of Honor's launch week by 2:1

The Xbox 360 versions of Battlefield 3 took the lion's share of UK sales in the game's chart-topping opening week.

The Xbox 360 versions of the regular and limited editions of the game accounted for 53 percent of total sales, according to data from Chart Track.

Here are the figures provided by the sales monitor with this morning's chart: XB360 (43), PS3 (29), XB360 (10), PC (10).

Given that two Xbox 360 sales figures were provided, the remaining eight percent of sales unaccounted for were presumably generated by one of the two PS3 versions of the game, giving the platform a 37 percent share. There's only a single retail PC version of the shooter.

Chart Track said the game begins life as the tenth biggest UK All Formats week one seller in terms of units and the ninth by revenue. It outsold Medal of Honor's 2010 first week total by 2:1.

"In fact, adding up all 17 Battlefield games week 1 sales since Battlefield 1942 in 2002 shows us that Battlefield 3 has outsold the cumulative week 1 sales of all of these combined," Chart Track added.

I'd be more excited if the news was that BF3 servers had stabilised...
Feel sorry for all those midnight shoppers and people who booked Fri off to play BF3 online. Only online game I have had so far is on a USA server.

I suppose people felt they got more value for money having multiple discs?

without a doubt, the worst single player FPS campaign i have ever played.

CONSTANTLY jumping through hoops, press a single button to complete complex task - sit and watch as it plays out... am i meant to be impressed?! f**king pathetic, an absolute horrific chore.

it has the best multiplayer, but we already knew that from BF:BC2.

the inclusion of the SP muddied the full package. DICE need a new publisher, and fast.

pathetic EA constant trash talking, then takes all the worst parts of COD, multiplies them and makes them even worse.

sad when someone of DICE's talent get dictated what to do by their publisher. in all honesty, i wouldn't care if this burns. but they probably think outselling MOH 2:1 (amazing!) that they're onto something with their 'new direction'. expect the next one to be even worse. very sad.

DICE, forget the SP and concentrate on MP. then we wouldn't have a half-assed buggy package.

More Xbox 360's sold in the UK than the PS3's so of course it will sell more on the Xbox 360 + It will be the same for the US to but the rest of the world i bet the PS3 sales are better.

I have BF3, and TBH it feels juts like an upgrade of BF:BC2, e.g. go prone and better graphics.

COD gets slated for it's lack of innovation, and rightly so, but I have not seen much in BF3 either, and been playing both SP and MP since Friday to say that it is in anyway shape or form a COD beater.

At the mo, metacritic for 360 version is at 85%. I think MW3 will beat that and will destroy BF3 in sales in a weeks time (which is obvious).

Don't get me wrong BF3 is good, it's just not as good as people think, has definately been overhyped by EA, and think that COD has nothing to fear in terms of losing any of it's fanbase.

Also, I am still suffering from graphical glitches in MP, which are very annoying, and that is with the Optimal Visual Quality installed.

Overall I'd give it an 8 and no more.

I traded in crappy RAGE after finishing it and Mass Effect 2 for BF3. RAGE was such a disappointment... anyway, I LOVE the single player campaign so screw you haters! As for the multiplayer, damn you need to work at it, play's totally different to COD which is why I like it so car, it looks fantastic, the presentation of the whole game is fantastic. The game is fantastic.. it deserves it's number one spot, until Wednesday when Uncharted 3 is launched. Then COD MW3...

The X360 is just a better online experience so this was always gonna happen.

And it'll happen with MW3. BOOM! called it Monday 31st October 2011. 12.42pm.

There's my prediction. Move over Pachter, there's a new kid in town.

BF3 is the greatest multiplayer game I've played. I have yet to find a single thing about the multiplayer that I don't like. Not a single thing. I'm astonished by that. The number of improvements over BFBC2 is impressive (if you think prone is the only difference, you're not paying attention). Of course, the connection issues are unfortunate, but temporary. I've barely touched the single player, but honestly, who the hell buys BF for single player?
I will be playing this game for a looooong time. :)

This is suprising considering the PS3 version seems to have the edge graphically according to Lens of Truth (and remember EA is in bed with Sony).

Also, 360 owners without a hard-drive receive a gimped version of the game with low-quality textures. I hope EA make that clear to buyers, and is something that they could have avoided according to Dig. Foundry.

I have been gagging for this game! But since I been playing it I just can't fall in love with it like BC2. Single player looks great, then you get dead bodies disappearin in front of me and invisible edges stopping bullets. It ruins the.feel. don't know if it just me but the multiplayer feels less destructive than BC2.

yeah i had noticed this - i've been firing rockets into buildings with no destruction.. BC2 didnt have those restrictions.

I tried the BETA release on both my 360 slim and PS3 slim at the same time and couldn't honestly see ANY difference. I've seen the comparison videos and again saw no difference, so I got it on my 360 and the graphics are damn good! The truth is, the 360 has always had the better GPU, but the PS3 has had the ability to of load certain graphics tasks to the Cell CPU. So it kinda depends on which 'look' you prefer as Nvidia and ATI do the same thing but in different way's hence the different 'look' they have.

But as for COD being more successful on the 360? tough one to call as the game is SOOOOO popular on all platforms, I'm still undecided as I have friends on the PS3 from work, but BLOPS as we know played best on the 360? So do I get it on my PS3 or 360? And it will be my traditional Christmas present as well so need to decide carefully, I am toying more to the 360 though.

 WOWZA!! I thought it would have done a lot better on PC than that! Maybe they should give Steam a call, and see how many they sold?

What? He never said it wasn't the best, he just asked for your reasons in saying it was the best. Also, PC obviously has the best experience online so don't even bother talking s**t like the retard that you are.

Pointing out his mistake is fair enough. But then you counteract your reasoning with idiocy.

Calling him a retard and in the same sentence harping on about the PC version being the best, makes you an even bigger one. Or does it not count when you're involved?

Who cares, really. If you rub yourself off looking at these articles, get out and about more. Can't stand this game, can't stand it. All that hype and it's a dead donkey on PS3.

Yeah, I am being serious. Please explain how playing Battlefield on the xbox is in any way better than on the PS3. Other than xbox having "cross game chat", there is no difference. & I would never want to take to people on other games while I'm playing an online game.

They are basically the same game. It just depends which controller you prefer. Please don't turn this into a PS3 vs 360 war. MW3 vs BF3 flaimbates are bad enough.
