If you happen to get your hands on a copy of Modern Warfare 3 ahead of Tuesday's official launch you might want to resist the urge to jump online.
Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox Live Stephen Tolouse initially said that early play on legitimately obtained copies should be fine, but he later backtracked.
His first Twitter post on the subject read: "For those asking about MW3 pre-release play: If your copy is legit and obtained legitly, have fun. It's a great game."
But he later added: "clarification: dblchk'd with Activision. Mw3 pre-release play not authorised. So pls be patient. Playing early may impact your account!"
It was reported yesterday that US retailer Kmart had begun selling copies of the game early due to a shipping error.
Spoilerific videos of the game's campaign have been showing up on the net, including what's being dubbed Modern Warfare 3's 'No Russian' airport massacre equivalent. It's sure to make headlines.
