Bookies crown Activision winner in Christmas FPS war

Paddy Power so convinced of CoD success they're dishing out winnings already...

With almost immaculate timing the gamble-merchants Paddy Power have paid out to punters who'd put their money on the latest Call of Duty claiming the number one slot this yule-tide. Even though the big day is still a month and a half away...

"At odds of 1/16 this contest is well and truly over," explained Paddy Power's Ken Robertson. "On its day of release we are happy to crown Call of Duty: MW3 this year's undisputed champion."

Call of Duty has claimed the top spot every year for the past four years, apart from that one time when World at War got pipped to Xmas number one by FIFA '09. Tch, Treyarch...

Ealier today Industry analysts Sterne Agee said they expect Modern Warfare 3 to shift 6 million units in its first 24 hours on sale.

Activision followed by confirming pre-order numbers for MW3 "shattered records" by toppling those of last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops.

"This watershed launch extends the legacy of the franchise like no other previous release," said CEO Eric Hirshberg.
