Activision 'making good headway' on CoD Elite repairs

Faltering service is improving, says publisher

Activision's Call of Duty: Elite service suffered launch-day outages yesterday as millions scrambled to register.

Activision said yesterday that it simply didn't anticipate the numbers that strangled the system, but today says improvements have been made.

"We are being challenged by a response beyond any of our expectations on day one," Activision Digital's vice president Jamie Berger told Kotaku today.

"But we're making good headway," he went on to assure gamers, saying that Activision has managed to increase the number of gamers that are able to sign up for the service simultaneously.

"This is like that terrible birthing pains any new online service goes through," he adds.

It's not surprising really. Addressing investors and analysts following the publisher's impressive third quarter financial results last night, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said "the record number of pre-orders from Modern Warfare 3 drove the largest day one shipments in our history and in the industry's history".

Simply put, the servers are going to be fairly busy.
