Battlefield 3 developer DICE has confirmed that the ridiculous blinding effect of the tactical light attachment will be turned down in an upcoming balance patch.

DICE has released before and after shots (pictured on this page) to show how the effect will be after the patch - far more acceptable we thing.
Core Gameplay designer Alan Kertz has also mention on Twitter, via PC Gamer, DICE's intention to rebalance anti-air gun fire to reduce the amount at which they effect a flying vehicle's flight path.
Also being considered is player's inability to land jets for repair, and Kertz also says that some apparent controller lag issues on the PS3 version that occur in 720p are "being worked on".
There's currently no date for the patch release.

Tac light is the best attachment in the game, yet I don't see why so many people put it on a sniper and sit in a bush with it turned on... They are perfectly hidden, apart from the massive light giving away their position.

do they have the "shades" accessory to avoid being blinded? or is that supposed to use a wavelength not seen in the sun?

Sadly most people dont realize you can actually turn them off.

How about making it so that you can't see your teammates flashlights?
That would be better.

Good to hear there's the customary balancing patch on the way. People make a bigger deal out of the tactical light than is necessary, but i do agree it's pretty stupid just how blinding it is, especially in daylight. Though from that screenshot there barely seems a point in having it.. ideally it needs to be a dynamic light, one that is influenced by the surroundings. That way it is actually a tactical attachment, ie there's no use in having a torch outside in daylight where it'd have no real effect, yet in dark, tight areas like operation metro or the tunnels in damavand peak, it'd be ideal, and probably would blind anyone looking at it. But perhaps it'd be too difficult to implement it that way, i'm not a game programmer so i wouldn't know in all honesty!
Also hope they sort out the controller lag on ps3, its not a massive ordeal cos lets face it, everyone is in the same position, but it would be nice to have tight controls, particularly considering bad company 2 was largely spot on.

Good to hear, I can't stand the use of it. Better suited for COD's run and gun style of play.

I thought about this , but decided.realism should prevail here. there should.be.consequences.to using it.
Blooming delighted they toning this down, its way over the too right now. The new version is still bright close up folks , its just.not as powerful further away, which is how it should be. Idea of a dynamic, environmentlly affected is nice, but probably asking too much of current hardware

Its not a tac light, thats the lens glinting.
It happens with any long ranged scope, but only when sighting.

they should sort out the laser as well. At the moment there is little disadvantage in using laser/flashlight (since it doesnt give ur position away unless looking head on. However, it is a massive advantage for the player using it since it covers the whole or most of the screen even from a large distance so u have no idea where to aim (esp since a few of their bullets wil kill you)

Exactly, as a weapon accessory it is equal for both sides so I'm not too fussed but as a teamwork accessory it is a nightmare!
kirankara on 14 Nov '11 said:
Maybe noobs should stop bloody using it then eh??lol
It should have consequences IMO. Like all weapons and attachments, its use should be balanced in its strengths, by its weaknesses

A badly implemented gimmick in my opinion, good to see they will get toned down.
kirankara on 14 Nov '11 said:
agree it's badly implemented currently, gimmick, I wouldnt go that far. It's a useful tool, that gives another way to increase your chances of living. It was just basically the sun in your hand unfortunately, and could blind entire world by unleashing its' power lol
Have nothing against it in principal, it just needs toning down.
KK-Headcharge78 on 14 Nov '11 said:
Its more the fact that it shines brighter than a super nova in broad daylight and gimmicky as it is no-where near as widely used in the military, especially in the daytime. However toned down it has a place I guess.

even in daylight, a very bright light would cause some serious discomfort in vision etc, but totally agree, it's a bit ott that it's this bight in broad daylight.

Rather than patching minor things like that, how about fixing the glitch that means I almost constantly spawn without any weapons? Honestly, I can only actually play about 25% of all the games I get into!
kirankara on 14 Nov '11 said:
wow, not had that one so far.
fat_tony2001 on 14 Nov '11 said:
It's an absolute killer. It's a shame because I love the game, but I'm so close to just sticking it on the shelf for a few weeks until there's (hopefully) a fix.

It has happened to me a couple of times these last couple of days, I've got around it by either cycling through the weapons or using the knife.
