Minecraft finally finished, goes gold

Indie world building hit ready for full release later this week

Minecraft has exited beta and gone gold ahead of its official release on Friday at the inaugural MineCon event in Las Vegas.

The news comes after the indie sandbox hit topped four million sales earlier this month, an impressive milestone following its release in an alpha state in May 2009.

Markus "Notch" Persson, studio head at developer Mojang, said on Twitter: "So, yes. Minecraft has gone gold." Simple and straight to the point.

An Xbox 360 Kinect version is currently in the works, although developer Mojang said in october it will launch in spring 2012, not this winter as initially announced by Microsoft.

Thanks, Edge.

This will join battlefield, FIFA, God of War, pokemon and angry birds as a series of games that others love but I will never play.

Not my thing, but as a former lego addict (my room was literally made from the stuff at one point) I can fully understand why so many people play this

It'd be great if it could run, I keep getting bad video card drivers even though they are up to date.

You could try this mod: Optifine http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249637-181-optifine-hd-d2-fps-boost-hd-textures/

I had the same problem as you when running it on my laptop, this mod sorted it out. It also allows you to fine tune the graphics which is incredibly useful if you're running on an older system.

I have tried it, not gotten into it at all so far, just lots of aimless wandering and the lens distortion is horrendous - things look considerably closer when they're stretched along the side of the screen!

Not sure what you've read but i think its an xbox game that includes kinect functionality rather than a kinect game.
