'We'll probably have to make Metal Gear Solid 5,' admits Kojima

"But what that will be, we have no idea," creator tells OPM

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has admitted his studio will "probably have to make" Metal Gear Solid 5 "at some point".

Speaking in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK - on sale November 29 - the Kojima Productions man said of MGS5: "I think we'll probably have to make it at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea".

Once again downplaying his involvement in any future Metal Gear project, Kojima added: "As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won't be as much as it was with MGS1 - maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on - that level I can't do again."

Of course, any fan worth his salt will point out that's exactly what Hideo said about MGS4 - and then he made it anyway.

The creator explained: "I intended to take it to a certain point and then hand it off, but that didn't work, because it's hard to convey the concept to other people then have them take the reins and carry on and preserve that vision."

His solution then is to not get involved at all, he said. "That's why it's easier to have them come up with everything from the start and then take it to the end."

The Kojima issue of OPM UK is out on November 29 and subs issues should be going out next week.

You can now get Official PlayStation Magazine UK on Apple Newsstand, either as a single issue or through a 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions available. You can also get Official PlayStation Magazine UK on Zinio as well, so you are full covered for all your digital reading needs. And the paper edition's also available in the shops and through a number of subscription offers.

I'd want to be done with the series as well. Convince them to make a new version of Snatcher. MGS should be laid to rest. After the exhaustive ending of 4 Tieing well every lose end there could ever possibly be. Whats the point.

Always look forward to any new news on releases in the MGS franchise, but no 40 minute cutscene's this time eh Hideo. And no time fillers of little girls cooking eggs either.

Go take a look at your previous epic MGS3 and copy the formula there. Still the best game in the franchise and still the best balance of cutscene/gameplay.

So tempted to just import the MGSHD collection rather than wait until February just to play MGS3 again.

doesn't matter if ends were tied up - it's a fictional story. more adventures can be added... and tied up even more.

in a prequel fashion, like peace walker or a different character, different timeline, different angle, acid trip, PTSD flashback... anything. it's all a fabrication and such doesn't have to adhere to any strict rules.

people want more. more will come.

    ps4 exclusive please 8)

I'd be fine if this ended now. Though rising is supposed to be a spinoff franchise, so more stories and variation could be more good than bad.

Would love more, been a massive fan since 1 and would love to see where everyone goes to after the ending we got for 4. I could understand not even basing it around snake/raiden/otacon/anyone we've seen before but keeping it in the same universe exploring other aspects of the way the technology is being abused.

I'd absolutely kill for remakes of the MSX Metal Gears - maybe that's something to try out?

Personally I doubt MGS5 will ever happen per se, but Metal Gear will be continued and supplemented though Peace Walker-esque games. Surely Snake did more in FOXHOUND than fight Big Boss and visit Shadow Moses Island?

The MGS series is done. 3 awesome main games and one final p**s poor one.

Unless it's about him slicking around in his wheelchair using stealth to escape from his old folks home. Maybe the orderlies will rip the p**s out of snake as he sits in a cardboard box and soils himself.

    Snaaaaaaaaake!

What are you talking about? They were all absolutely brilliant! So much so that I can't decide which one was my favourite (Out of MGS1, 3 or 4)

A better story, back to what MGS was on PS1, enough with the jokes, a real mutiplayer. The 3rd one was decent especially with the scenes in jungle environment. Perhaps Team ICO could give a hand there.

I still think kojima never bettered MGS1; None of the 30 minute cut scenes and pretentiousness of the later games yet it still remains the most inventive and constantly jaw dropping game in the series. The fight with psycho mantis, finding a code on the back of the game box, the first time a guard followed your footprints ect. I havn't played a game before or since that had so many "wow" moments.

Jeez, it's not as if someone has a gun to his head demanding it gets made. If its that big a deal let it go. Life's short enough as it is.

Let's hope so. I did an "Astro" with MSG4.

if they make number 5 they should get rid of the ridiculousy long cut scenes. if hideo loves cutscenes so much he should just make a film instead of charging us consumers £40 for an interative movie
