Codemasters has begun teasing the return of 1980s egg-shaped gaming mascot Dizzy.

Codemasters communications manager Rich Eddy tweeted: "Time for a fresh eggventure."
Created by the Oliver Twins, who later went on to form Blitz Games Studios, the Dizzy franchise was one of the most successful European game brands of the late 1980s.
Based around the exploits of an intelligent egg-like creature, the platform puzzle solving games typically saw Dizzy trying to save his friends and family, the Yolkfolk. Treasure Island Dizzy on Atari ST was the first one this writer played and remembers fondly.
It'll be very interesting to see how Codies updates the series. We reckon an XBLA, PSN and PC downloadable game would make sense. What would you like to see?

dizzy and the yolk folk
these were my first games on the c64.
not sure how well an egg as a character would be received today, but...
platforming with a joystick, haha. frustrating to say the least.
i remember being stuck at the very first bit for ages. then i bribed the guard with a loaf of bread or something.

This really stretches my gaming memory, as Dizzy was one of the first games I ever played back on the Amiga - remember it being quite tricky, but fun.
Not something I ever thought would be revived, but I'm intrigued to see how it'll be remadefor the 21st century.
Eggsellent.

Treasure Island Dizzy on my Spec 48K... oh how I miss the old days of gaming!
I remember you had to go find a snorkel before you could go under water.... do eggs have lungs?

I just had a little moment there, I've recovered and am now at the giggling stage, so happy about this.

I totally forgot about the snorkel
. I just finished Little Puff (stunningly short but I couldn't beat it as a 6 year old haha) on Monday and believe it or not Treasure Island dizzy was next on my list. I started one of the other dizzy games earlier in the year but got stuck and never returned. I will play all the way through TID, I MUST!
The controls are much easier on a phone than on a joystick as well. Go figure.

Yee Haww!!
Like Grasshopper i played these games way back on the C64 and i remember them being very tricky. I hope they remake those classics in some way and put in a graphic switcher like R-Type and Halo anniversary have done. It's actually quite shocking when you see Halo 1's graphics compared to today's, i'd love to see a jump back to either C64 or Amiga graphics.
Now all we need is The Last V8, The Human Race and Clumsy Colin in Action Biker.
Oh and like the above poster i'd love to see New Zealand Story redone, either a new version or a live release.

My heart almost stopped when I read this, dizzy on the C64 was one of the biggest parts of my childhood, I remember going out and buying the Dizzy Collection, even had Kwick Snax, the very fist video game I ever played!

Damn it I was gonna say that stop poaching all my best yolks.
Anyhow I'm egg-static over this news i used to love Dizzy on the Amiga, I'm gonna keep my sunnyside up and hope it turns out to be egg-ceptional, I hope its not to eggs-pensive as I cant really afford to shell out to much..

New Zealand Story was remade in 2007 for Nintendo DS. No one really bought it.

Such pathetic attempts at puns are to be egg-spected in a thread like this...

awesome. i loved DIzzy on my NES back in teh day of the dodgy codemasters 'carts' which required another game cart to get them working lol i never played the speccy/c64 versions. my parents didnt see the deal of computers claiming "they'll never take off" I could see Dizzy working really well on DS, i alwaysthought having the old ones on teh VC would be great, keep em nice cheap and simple and codemasters could make a killing cos i cant quite see folk wanting to spend £40 on a dizzy game, i think theres too many memories of paying a couple quid for em

BEST NEWS EVER!!!
Dizzy was my favourite series of games as a child, i still have them all now including a full collection of all codemasters games made for the spectrum, it took me years to track down some of them.
Even if it turns out to be a stinker i will still get it, games like these are so rare, not just a platformer but a platformer with puzzles and real character, i really hope its a boxed product not just a digital release and that it has the whole of the yolk folk in it....
Oh and if you are listening codemasters, this is the time to re-launch that awesome baseball cap and t-shirt promo you did way way back in the late 80's and early 90's, who would buy a DIZZY t-shirt?????............ I WOULD
Nothing can spoil my day now

I remember playing Dizzy: Prince of Yolk Folk. I sat and completed it in about an hour and thought to myself what a huge game it was. Treasure Island Dizzy was a lot bigger.
Hopefully XBLA/PSN/Steam remakes or a new game. I'd even be happy with a 3DS game. I just hope they aren't just remakes on mobiles.

Maybe they can also remake jet ski and BMX simulator too!

Every official Dizzy game made have a re-release without being overhauled. I love Dizzy and so much of my youth was spent playing those games.
Totally looking forward to this.
Please Codemasters, please don't cock this up...

If its on the XBLA, its sold! Don't want no cheesy touch screen controls, only games touch screen phones are good for are games like cut the rope. I used to love the Dizzy games, the one on the megadrive was awesome as it had a great colour palette which brought Dizzy to life a little more. With today's near infinite colour palette, and some modern creative writing and puzzles, it could be a great hit and spark a return of actual returns and remakes of things that deserve them.
I mean skipping at least 2 generations for a remake, I can understand, eg, Ocarina of Time 3DS, but when its like a 1 generation skip like halo anniversary or twin snakes, ok both good games, but so were the originals. But having FIVE generations between game revivals is how to show the new crowd how we used to roll!
And regarding all the witty retorts from my fellow cvgians, you lot crack me up.
