Codemasters has revealed plans to release a remake of Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk for iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

The title is being developed by DNA Interactive, with Paul Ranson, the original game's project director, heading up its creation.
"20 years on and Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk remains one of the most memorable games in the series for its puzzles and humour and it's an absolute pleasure to return to the director's role for this HD edition," he said.
"For once, this is a retro classic that doesn't require rose-tinted glasses to appreciate its design and gameplay - Dizzy: Prince of the Yolk is simply a great puzzle-solving romp that's been brought up-to-date with glorious visuals."
Here's the official description:
In this iOS/Android eggdaptation, our hero in a whole shell is back in familiar form, complete with red boxing gloves and his trademark somersaults as he ventures forth in an eggventure packed with collect-and-solve puzzles in a magical cartoon world," says the press release.
As ever, his friends, the Yolkfolk, are in trouble and need saving from danger. On this occasion, girlfriend Daisy has been trapped in mysterious castle while our hero has been locked in an underground dungeon by Rockwart the troll on orders from Evil Wizard Zaks (boo and hiss).
To save the day, Dizzy must run and tumble around the kingdom of Keldor. On his journey throughout this magical land Dizzy will explore underground caves, leap and bound into tree tops, cross the River Styx (which strangely seems to run through Keldor) and bounce all the way up to the far away clouds to assist Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates.
On his adventure Dizzy encounters all kinds of characters, from the Grim Reaper to the Troll-terrorising Fluffles, some needing his help, some offering advice and some simply wanting to bite his hands off. By collecting objects and solving puzzles, the assorted cast will help Dizzy in return as he continues on his quest to rescue his beloved Daisy from the castle.

Of all the Dizzy games to choose from, they go with this...
The controls will be horrible as well. It was hard enough back in the day trying to do pixel perfect jumps sinking through a cloud, with a keyboard.

If they'd just skip forward to Fantasy World DIzzy next, that'd be...cracking?

Why is it on iOS? Have they ever tried to play a platformer on a touchscreen? It doesn't work! Should have been on a console. I'm trying to stay hopeful but alarm bells, they are a-ringin'...
And still would like to see a compilation of all the previous games released UNTOUCHED.

This would be an eggcellent way to pass the time on the way into work.
It looks like a way for Codies to eggsperiment with the brand and to see if there is demand for it.

Whilst it could sell reasonably well on XBLA and PSN, the mobile market is probably much better suited to this type of game; I know it would keep me entertained on my commute to and from work.
Also - Dizzy Rascal just came on the radio while I was reading this. Must be a sign.

Ahh dizzy, one of my first memories of games on a spectrum.. Didn't realise until the last few years how short the games actually are once you know where you need to go.

Believe it or not these games are actually easier on a touchscreen than old joysticks. It is much easier hitting the diagonals to jump.
Started playing treasure island dizzy, crashes on the same screen every time
one screen after the boat. Oh well.
Playing on xperia play

iOS? Really? I mean... reeeaaaalllllyyyyyy?
What the hell? Another childhood favorite 'smashed' by Codies and their 'scrambled' logic.
What's with devs these days? Have they got a clue anymore?

Touchscreen fail. From the idea, I would have thought it'd have more of a Rayman Origins style rather than just redrawing the old sprites in HD, it animates like pap and looks like it controls like an old java game on an old dumbphone. Still, Dizzy has something you can't take away right? Er?

Shame it's not out on any real platforms.

ARGHHHHHHH
From the great news yesterday of a Dizzy remake we get Prince of the yolkfolk (shortest dizzy game of them all) and on crappy touchscreen mobile phones.
CODEMASTERS................ NO!
You could have easily bashed this out on xbox live and ps3 for the price of say 200-400 MP or 1.99-2.99 PS3 and us old school gamers would have gone mental for it but doing this version of dizzy this way is just idiotic..... I'm sure everyone will agree that the vast number of people who use I-phones etc are of the age demographic of say 13-25, these people didnt even remember Dizzy so why cater to them?
The sheer number of posts this story has generated on CVG and other sites means that the fanbase is most definately out there, a lot of us are so bored of yearly football and cod games we want some fresh thinking, platformers are in serious need of a reboot and Dizzy is a great choice.
If codemasters want to make some money off of this and re-launch the franchise properly heres what you do.......
Release Treasure Island or fantasy world dizzy for 1.99 or 200 MP on the 2 popular consoles sit back and watch the cash flood in, then after you release one, release all 4 of the major dizzy games (dizzy, treasure island, fantasy, magicland) onto the networks and make even more cash, then bring it all upto date with the same kind of cartoon animation rayman has and do a brand new adventure and make some serious bank off of that as well.
Or churn out your yearly F1 games that bore us to tears and some rubbish FPS every so often and wonder why we all think your a joke thesedays.
