Gamers pepper sprayed and face-slammed on Black Friday

The hunt for cheap games gets hostile

Black Friday is never fun. You get cheap stuff, but the insane crowds and queuing in the cold isn't a laugh. But for some this year the night went very wrong.

Gamers standing in line for cheap Xbox consoles and Wii games at the Wal-Mart in Porter Ranch, San Fernando Valley, were sprayed with pepper spray.

According to an LA Times report (via Kotaku), mass shoving broke out in the games section of the store before one woman thought it a good idea to bust out the pepper spray and empty it into the faces of fellow shoppers.

"People started screaming, pulling and pushing each other, and then the whole area filled up with pepper spray," said one shopper. "They had been sprayed in the face, it looked like, and they had swelling of the face, really extreme swelling of face, redness, coughing," added another.

Meanwhile, the grandfather of a young boy shopping for games at the Buckeye Wal-Mart in Arizona had his face smashed on the ground by police who thought he was shoplifting.

Reports of what actually happened are conflicting, but a Fox Phoenix report (thanks Destructoid) says the boy was being trampled by a crowd hellbent on grabbing up cheap games when his grandfather tucked games he was holding into his belt to free up hands to pick up the boy. This is when police charged in and slammed him face-first into the ground.

A YouTube video of the scene show the man being cuffed as he's held face-down in a pool of blood.

From now on we're sticking to online shopping.

Spend a day giving thanks for what you have, then trample people into the ground trying to get more stuff. IT'S THE AMERICAN WAY!

wow.. just wow.. i watched thta video and after seeign what cops do for the federal government at PEACEFUL protests.. i think our law enforcement system needs a SERIOUS ass kicking. so the guy shoved some games up his shirt, big deal until the officer could be ABSOLUTELY 100% certain he was goign to STEAL he had NO right. the man made no break for an exit, or even attempted to go for an exit, he was simply trying to grab his grandson. and because some bald four eyed JACKASS wanted to assume the guy got literally KNOCKED out and probably has broken nose and cheek bones, also the official statement from the cheifs assisting was he was resisting AFTER beign hurt, yet he was unconcious AFTER being hurt, so any resisting is purely subconcious and probably NON EXISTANT!! so the cover story to save the officers ass has already begun. there are moves and ways to put a person down WITHOUT makign them faceplant like that, not to mention an officer is SUPPOSE to be able to pass a physical and that man would definitely NOT be a challange for a PROPERLY conditioned officer in terms of strength.

Shoplifting or not? I would say not. Unless the guy has actually left the store without attempting to pay for them he hasn't done anything wrong.

I think it's sickening the way some people behave on Black Friday. Obviously we only ever see the worst cases but still!

I KNOW your're UPSET about this situation, but there ARE greater issues a foot. Namely this ISSUE in which KEY words in sentences are MYSTERIOUSLY becoming all CAPITAL letters. f**k sake!
