Ron Gilbert, co-creator of classic adventure games Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken, has released a couple of pieces of character art from his next game.
The artwork was posted on Grumpy Gamer, Gilbert's own website. According to the comments alongside the images the untitled new project is an "idea that has been in my head for a long long long time".
"It predates Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. It's a game that needed to be made."
The dynamic adventure game duo Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer reunited last year, when Gilbert set up shop at Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions, having just wrapped up work on the Deathspank games.
What Gilbert has been up to at Double Fine has been a mystery until now. When quizzed last year Schafer explained his position as "the official Ron Gilbert. Though he started out as vice Ron Gilbert, we want to make sure he works out."
Given their penchant for an absurd premise trying to figure out what the game might be about from these two images showing off a mobster and a scientist is almost certainly a waste of time and brain power. But whatever it is, we can't wait to see more.
