Star Wars: Old Republic beta attracts 2 million sign-ups

"The game itself has a huge pre-existing fan base," says EA CFO Eric Brown

Star Wars: The Old Republic is already a hit and it's not even out yet.

A massive 2 million fans have volunteered to take part in the beta tests for BioWare's much-hyped MMO.

"The game itself has a huge pre-existing fan base. We had about 2.4 million people register for the Star Wars fan site, over 2 million of which volunteered to do [beta] testing for free," said EA CFO Eric Brown today.

The game clocked up over 725,000 unique users over the thanksgiving weekend. "In terms of peak concurrent users, we had just over a quarter of a million people playing the game simultaneously," he said (thanks Gama).

GAME and Gamestation will be the exclusive stockists of the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector's Edition.

It's going to be huge.
