Waiting for killer 3DS titles was a bit like waiting for a bus. That might sound a bit harsh - Ocarina of Time 3D was clearly an exception - but quite a few early adopters soon found their shiny new portable gathering dust - until Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arrived over the past month, that is.
As well as pleasing existing owners, MCV says the two new Mario games have helped drive a surge in sales for the handheld, with UK shops reporting a sharp increase in 3DS traffic in recent weeks.
"Sources on the High Street" told the site that "the Metallic Red edition is all but sold out, with other colours also in short supply".
GAME's category manager for Nintendo Iain Johnson commented: "We have high expectations for the final few weeks before Christmas."
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said last week that 3DS had sold more units in the US in its first eight months than the original DS managed in a year.
The dramatic global 3DS price cut also clearly played its part in encouraging sales, but it's just nice to see the system finally shifting plenty of units and playing home to some stellar games.
