PlayStation Network maintenance this Thursday

Sign in before 4pm or risk saying goodbye to a night of online gaming

PlayStation Network maintenance is scheduled to take place later this week, from 4pm UK time on Thursday December 15 until 2am on Friday morning.

Users who attempt to sign in during the maintenance window may be unable to do so, although those who are already logged in shouldn't be affected.

PSN downtime is always a nuisance, especially when it's scheduled during a prime time gaming slot, but if it helps keep the network "more secure and better than ever", as Sony CEO Howard Stringer said in September, then who are we to argue.

Unveiling the first in a new series of monthly PSN charts last week, Sony said inFamous: Festival of Blood has become the fastest-selling PSN game ever.

    Sure its annoying, but I rather they keep the security up.

    sign-in in the morning before you go to work or whatever if it's that important. simple?
