Monster Hunter 3G drives record 3DS sales in Japan

Portable hits three million milestone following best weekly sales yet

The launch of Monster Hunter 3G has helped smash two 3DS sales records in Japan.

The first 3DS entry in Capcom's series sold 471,055 copies in its first two days of availability, easily topping the weekly software sales record recently set by Mario Kart 7.

It also drove record weekly sales for the portable, which moved 378,114 units - just above the 371,326 units from launch week - in the seven days ended December 11, Andriasang reports.

The surge helped push Japanese 3DS sales beyond the three million mark, with lifetime sales now totalling 3,237,272 units.
