Annual PS3 sales 'slightly ahead of target'

Sony still expects to shift 15 million units this financial year

Sony says annual PS3 sales are on track to meet the company's annual target, despite the prolonged debt crisis gripping Europe.

That was the message from Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House, who told journalists today (via Reuters) that, if anything, PS3 sales are tracking slightly ahead of target to meet 15 million by the end of the company's financial year on March 31.

House declined to give a unit sales estimate for PlayStation Vita, which launches in Japan this Saturday and in the west next February.

He did say that currency rates will determine how quickly Sony can turn Vita hardware sales profitable, with the company having been hit hard by the yen's rise against the euro.

As of November 2, lifetime PS3 sales were within 1.3 million units of catching Xbox 360.

just bought a new white 320GB ps3 for £250 with two controllers.

that'll see me right up to ps4, once a decent library has amassed, and maybe a price drop or hardware revision.

they need drop the smaller HDD unit down to £150 after christmas and throw in a game. that should get them moving.

Shame the PS3 isn't $199 or lower in the US now + £149 or lower in the UK :( + i wonder 'when' it(PS3) will overtake the Xbox360 in 'Worldwide' sales next year? I can't wait to see what these sites say when that happens :D
