APB Reloaded tops 3 million registered users

First major content update introduces new game mode Fight Club

APB Reloaded has surpassed three million registered users, according to publisher GamersFirst.

The game reached the milestone shortly after its launch on Steam last week, and currently ranks as the second most popular free-to-play title on the digital distribution service.

Currently in open beta, APB Reloaded will also receive a retail release, with a boxed version hitting shelves "soon" at Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy and GameStop stores across the US.

To bolster its launch, GamersFirst has released the title's first major content update, which introduces a new game mode called Fight Club. Here's the official description:

Fight Club is an entirely new game mode that adds fast-paced third-person shooter play set in new maps within APB Reloaded's city setting. It translates to a distinct new game play experience now available to players . APB Reloaded is the world's first Free2Play open world action game, distinguished by its immersive player-versus-player (PvP) urban warfare premise and deep customization of characters, cars and other features. For trigger happy gamers, Fight Club delivers a pick-up-and-play mode that's essentially a session-based online shooter with vehicles.

GamersFirst SVP of marketing and business development Rahul Sandil said: "We recognised the potential for APB Reloaded to be a true breakout hit in the Free2Play category all through beta testing.

"We quickly amassed a vocal, dedicated community, and they've been instrumental in growing the game and helping better the experience."

APB Reloaded developer Reload Productions secured the rights to the urban crime MMO shortly after original creator Realtime Worlds shut last year.
