The Last Guardian NOT cancelled, GameStop apologises for mistake

Breathe people, breathe

GameStop has issued a statement apologising for wrongly informing customers that Team ICO's The Last Guardian had been cancelled.

GameStop customers initially received the Last Guardian cancelleation news via an automated call saying the Team ICO project has been canned. The product was also removed from the retailer's website and in-store systems.

Sony's senior director of corporate communications, Patrick Seybold, quickly responded by saying: "This is not true," and now GameStop has issued an official statement to Kotaku.

Here's what it had to say:

"The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known."

Keep calm and carry on folks.

Very glad to hear it isn't. However, once again Sony seem to be turning something that should be a major strength for their product into a farce. I know some people will say it's all the fault of Ueda leaving but, at the end of the day, this is a Sony published product and they should have been managing / supervising it much more effectively than it appears they have been.

Let's hope 2012 sees Sony finally put away the gun that they keep shooting them selves in the foot with.

Maybe now people can stop getting ahead of themselves saying they smell something fishy within development.

Bring it on, can't wait. As long as Ueda is staying to the very end of development, I'm going to be happy. It will leave me a tad cautious with future TI games when they do actually lose him but I'm sure he will have left them all a spark.

    This game looks outstanding.

You all know how I feel about the PS3 but nobody can deny that this...

This has the potential to be the absolute best PS3 game of next year, hell I'll say it, best CONSOLE game of next year.

    Merry Christmas PS3 fanboys.

    Love NEO_SUPERMAN.

    P.S. Halo 4, I still love you.

Too bad, I was hoping for Platinum Games to take over development.

I'll be waiting until it's under £20, then I'll get it.

Wouldn't be surprised if what he actually meant by that was "We aren't ready to announce the cancellation yet". I hope for gaming's sake that I'm wrong as this looked like it was shaping up to be another Team Ico gem.
