The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim isn't just a hit in the West and on Steam - it's seemingly proved popular with Japanese developers too.
4Gamer polled 80 Japanese developers on their top games of 2011 and the resulting answers put Skyrim as the favourite.
Notable figures like Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida; Phantasy Star Portable producer Satoshi Sakai; and Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino all gave Skyrim the thumbs up.
Portal 2 was another favourite from the West, chosen by Fumito Ueda (Last Guardian), Youjiro Ogawa (Yakuza: Black Panther), and others.
Uncharted 3, Infinity Blade II, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were also chosen multiple times by the Japanese devs.
Coming in as the second favourite Japanese game was Dark Souls - the second most popular game overall, behind Skyrim. Catherine was the third most popular Japanese game. Mobile releases like Groove Coaster and Angry Birds were mentioned too.
Heavy Rain topped the list in 2010, making this at least the second year in a row for a non-Japanese game to be the top pick.
