Netflix app appears on UK PS3s

Service launch looks imminent

A Netflix app has begun appearing on PS3s in the UK ahead of the service's planned "early 2012" launch on this side of the pond.

Already available in the US, the popular service allows users to sift through 1,000s of movies and TV shows and stream an unlimited amount of them through a broadband connection for a monthly subscription fee.

The Netflix app on the PS3 XMB is a 13MB download, but at present users cannot access the service, only sign up for alerts as to when it will be available, Connected Consoles reports.

Netflix has confirmed content deals with BBC Worldwide and movie studios Lionsgate UK, Miramax and MGM. Further details about the UK service, including pricing, content and supported devices, will be announced closer to launch.

The service is available in the US via a range of consumer electronics devices including Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and 3DS, as well as on PCs, Macs, tablets and phones.
