Original Killzone confirmed for PSN

The PS2 series original coming to PS2 as a download

Killzone 2/3 fans will have the chance to revisit the series' origins soon when the PS2 debut game releases on PSN.

PlayStation Network Screenshot
Sony has confirmed that the the first Killzone game will hit PSN in digital form on January 24, for download and play on PS3.

It'll cost $9.99 and will simply be a straight digital version of the game, rather than a 'HD' remaster like the God of War or Team ICO games.

Sony pitched Killzone as PS2's "Halo beater" when it was originally released in 2004.

Decent shooter in its day, but nowhere near as good going on the reviews, more so official magazine reviews. But you can pick this up cheap now, Computer Exchange have it down as being £3.50 and even cheaper on eBay, if you can get it with free postage.

I wonder why they didn't bother with a HD remake

Can't wait to finish the triology though.

Go and s**te Sony!! The one half decent Killzone single player game and you treat it like s**t!! You promote your stuff to have us all getting HD tellys and then release a PS2 game without any kind of graphical upgrade or polish?! f**k right off!! Give it a HD upgrade, online 4 player co-op on the campaign and competitive multiplayer and then you'll get my money.

Nice, most probably will pick this up as it's my favourite out of all the Killzone games followed by Liberation on the PSP. IMO leaps and bounds more varied and fun than the second of third games in every way from story to gameplay.. The graphics I even loved which had the perfect urban gritty feel before it became a next gen standard. I would highly prefer if it was upgraded for High Def though.

Read that it was actually pretty poor and everyone was surprised the sequels were so good as they didnt feel Killzone merited a sequel.

A straight port as opposed to a HD remake built from the ground up? This would seem to suggest it is being emulated which begs the question.... why can't PS3 emulate other PS2 games?

Talk about underselling it. I take it they won't have sorted out the very heavy and stilted movement either?

But then they wouldn't be able to push us into a situation where we have to buy all those games again...

I still prefer the first Killzone over the sequels (which i'm sure i'll come under attack for but I don't give a damn). I liked K2 & K3 but I though K1 was my original and varied, being able to select different charcters and go different routes was very enjoyable. Add the all the fun weapons and more it was quite a mixed game to play through. K2 & K3 just felt a little to much of the generic marine shooters. But it’s all opinion of course. (and again for the record I like all three Killzone games)

Ahh the original attempt at the Halo killer. I still don't understand how this was billed as such when the game itself was a bit of a clunky mess without a single shred of multiplayer, splitscreen or PS2 online.

It does stink a bit that this is just being emulated instead of remixed, it leaves the question as to why we can't get the BC back, yes we know that it means that they couldn't keep selling us the same games back to us on their terms but surely there should be something in place to stop this sort of thing happening. Its shafting of the highest degree.

Nobody is forced to buy the HD collections. People act like buying our old games is a new thing, solely to blame on one company. When in fact it's been going on as long as most of us have been gaming. My first, and i'm sure many others are the same, was Super Mario All-Stars on the Snes.

Yeah but this isn't a HD collection, this is just the PS2 game emulated on a machine that the BC emulation software was removed from due to supposed cost cutting measures. The fact that it can still emulate a ps2 game should not sit well with those who have desires to play their own, already paid for, back catalogue on the machine that they ordered with the promise of backwards compatibility only for it to be removed before they got it.

Then they have 4 options. They can play it on their PS2. Download it and accept the fact BC has gone. Don't buy it. Or go back in time and buy a PS3 that would play it.

They won't bring it back, it's been gone longer than it was available for now. My dad used to pick me up and fly me around the garden, if he tried now he'd end up in a heap on the floor. Me moaning about it won't change it, we accept it, move on and enjoy what we do have not what we lost.

Could be worse.....could have bought that fecking Jurassic Park game off PSN like I did. I'm still trying to get over it, it's a struggle and the nightmares are vivid but the drinking helps.
