Congratulations to Rocksteady but screw you Warner Brothers
.
I ended up getting Arkham City for Xmas and I must admit, its a truly stupendous Game and how Rocksteady follow it up, God only knows?
Im also going to pick up Skyrim this weekend for the 360, are the glitches and bugs that have been all over the net, really that bad, or are they only a slight grumble?
Anyhoos, I think we can all agree that its a Top 10 that no one can really moan about? There is NO ZUMBA!

Its a very good game, but for me not as good as AA or Uncharted 3. Technically a much better game, but let down by the storey for me and not nearly as tense as AA.

QFT.
I enjoyed AA a lot more than AC... not to say AC was bad, not at all, but it felt under-developed compared to AA and there was so much more atmosphere in AA. I also felt Uncharted 3 was a better game than AC but that's subjective I guess.

Skyrim's should be about 90, the bugs almost killed my 240 playthrough and I played it on the 360
I felt as though the entire time I was fighting the bugs which as times was more epic than fighting the dragons
I though Arkham City, Skyward Sword and Portal 2 should be the highest rated

I like Arkham City and it's a great game, but it didn't feel as good as Arkham Asylum was. I think the story wasn't as tight or as compelling as AA. I'll admit there's plenty to do in the game, much more than AA, but still something just didn't feel right. Oh and the Catwoman DLC was more than pointless, but considering it's free with a new copy of the game I can't really complain.
It'd say Arkham City was fourth on my GOTY list behind Skyrim (my GOTY - possibly my game of this gen, so much to do, so much freedom in how you play, purest example of gaming), Portal 2 (funniest game, tightest gameplay, best multiplayer, game that actually makes you think), and Uncharted 3 (best pacing, did not put the controller down until I finished it). Deus Ex rounds off my Top 5.

The Skyrim glitches are worst on the PS3. There is still quite a lot on xbox, but its still nowhere near as bad as the PS3 version.

Have to say I preferred AA too. It felt polished and tight. AC on the other hand felt disconnected and rushed. All those villain mentions and cameos spread far too thin and shoe-horned in, whilst side activities and quests in general felt like underdeveloped and almost worthless distractions rather than the great moments and fun they could have been. Detective mode and interrogations for instance could have been games and deep segments in themselves if given the right treatment but ended up merely being quick effortless drags. The only saviour in the side quests for me were the riddler sections. More item collecting segments in games should make them more interesting than simply walking over an icon or clicking on it. Rocksteady have plenty to better.

For once 10 fantastic games are actually in the chart instead of the most popular ones. These games offered something different insead of just your run of the mill shoot-em-up.

Good point! and crimson too, pretty much my thinking.

Gotta agree with posters on here regarding Batman AA and AC. Loved AC don't get me wrong, but it didn't feel as great as AA did.
Forza 4 deserves more recognition IMO, being a fan of the Gran Turismo series from the PS1 and PS2 days, Turn 10 have provided fantastic "Gran Turismo games" for this conole generation. Considering the disapointing GT5, praise the lord for Turn 10 !

I think my overall game of the year 2011 has to be Deus Ex. I had been looking forward to it for years ever since it was first announced and it didn't disappoint in the slightest. Fantastic atmosphere, great story, lots of freedom, superb music and bang up to date gameplay, but yet somehow it still captured the feel of the originals. An awesome experience and I will definitely play it again at some point.
I still have Arkham Asylum and Arkham City sitting on my shelf from when I purchased them last year. I got not even a quarter of the way through Asylum before other games I'd bought arrived that I wanted to play more, but I fully intend to go back to it, start over from the beginning and play them both as I've been told they are both excellent. Its worth noting I picked up the Goty Edition of Asylum which has the Trioviz 3d glasses (enabling you to play 3d on a 2dtv) and it works surprisingly well. All games that have a 3d option should include this feature as it allows everyone to enjoy the game in 3d without forking out for a new Tv.
@ StonecoldMC - I started playing Skyrim last week and haven't encountered a single bug yet (I have the 360 version) so I think its safe to say a lot of them must have been fixed by now, although I'm sure there will still be a few that haven't knowing Bethesda!

Hmm. No Skyrim PS3 in the top ten?.............oh yeah they deliberately didn't send out review copies
Portal 2 scored 95 on all platforms, Valve showing how multi-platform titles should be done, delivering a fantastic experience on ALL formats, rather than knocking out a half arsed port and running off with peoples money, take note Bitchesda.

I still think bethesda should be fined by the trades commission for their pathetic respect shown to customers. I mean, a public apology should be done at least. Any other product would be done for doing the same thing so why should gaming be any different. In fact, they need a new set of rules for publishers in the industry or us gamers will continue to see more and more money being wasted on sub par and half completed products.
TheCrimsonFenix on 13 Jan '12 said:
I second this.
Hoping and leaving post-release fixes to solve the problem is just ridiculous and an evil business practice.
TheLastDodo on 13 Jan '12 said:
I agree gmc but until that day comes I'll just buy Bethesda titles pre-owned if I want them.

What a 'BORING' Top ten apart from Batman that is. It seem gaming sites love boring PC'ish RPG'ish Zzzzz games? Quality console games is what i have in my Top 10:P (Yeah some are on consoles as well but they are not my type of games i play)
Imaduck on 13 Jan '12 said:
AA was overated, no surprise AC gets overated. The annoying bit is that it sets fan expectations too high only to be brought down. Annoying when reviewers do that, can damage your first impressions of a brilliant game. I think this says it all about Metacritic too really, the fact that 1 version got higher than another. Not exactly equal stats gathering, unless I've missed some glaring problems with the 360 version ( I know they buggered up the PC version)
Pity metacritic isn't just about the game itself, as in the title, not versions.

I definitely enjoyed AC and it's one of the best games this year, but Deus Ex is my game of the year, despite the disappointing ending. First game in a long time that truly immersed me in its world, so much so, that I'd look up at the clock and realise it was 3 in the morning and I best get some sleep before work!

Same here, except I enjoyed the ending/s.

Arkham City was awesome but I cant help but feel 'what next?'
They put so many popular villains in the game that well.. They've outdone themselves a bit? What other villains.. worthy ones.. could they put in the new one?
Thats the only thing I worry about :/, that the next Batman may fall short then the previous two, purely because they've used so many villains.. and killed a few off. Already.
Imaduck on 13 Jan '12 said:
I think TDKR film will be basically that KM. They pretty much killed the actual interesting side of Batman in the second film and used the Joker to fill the void. Now with the Joker gone, they're trying to throw as much as they can into the last one to fill the gaping voids of depth.

Best of the year
1. Skyrim (PS3)
2. Uncharted 3
3. Batman Arkham City (PS3)
Biggest disappointment of the year
1. Socom 4
2. Gears of War 3

I really enjoyed it, but seriously, the plot was pretty damn weak. Towards the end it got better but it was full of dead ends and got boring IMO. I like it though and have bought the 3 DLC packs for 12 quid on PSN.

I'm gonna show love to all the games on the list, they all in their own ways deserve to be number 1, thats the first proper chart i fully agree with, its great seeing proper good games that deserve it on the list

Lol, bit harsh but I'm fundamentally in agreement! I've tried again and again with rpg's but they bore the pants off me!
And it's also nice to see the PS3 getting some recognition for having the best port of Portal 2 - especially after some of the halfbaked efforts us PS3 owners have had to endure...
