The number of people using entertainment apps on Xbox Live increased by nearly 50 percent globally from November to December, according to Microsoft mouthpiece Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb.

The Major also said the hours of video consumed globally on Xbox Live increased 140 percent from 2010 to 2011.
Suggesting that the recent usage stats "illustrate our community's excitement around Xbox 360 becoming more personal, engaging and social through Xbox Live", he added: "Moving forward, you can expect to see more of the world's leading entertainment providers coming to Xbox and a continued rollout of additional entertainment apps."
What are your thoughts on the new Xbox 360 dashboard - is it a change for the better, or worse?

Initially I didn't think a whole lot of it but now that I've gotten used to it I prefer it to the old one. I've watched every episode of Peep Show since 4oD became available. Next up is Father Ted. For about the 43rd time.
I have had some problems lately with the 4oD server not being available. Probably too many trying to use it at once. Upgrade your servers, you dogs!

So downloadable/viewed video content increases by 50%? Fantastic for MSN, Warner Bros, Sky, Lovefilm etc!
I can imagine though, that downloadable game content has decreased by about 50%? Terrible news for Indie Devs and makers of other small budget Games!
Go on Major, tell us how Game content is going after the update on your Games Console.

Slightly off-topic, but is anyone else having sound issues with Netflix on the 360? The sound is fine up until I select a film, but cuts out during the loading process and I have to unplug the HDMI cable or restart my 360 to get the sound back on. It works fine on my PS3, but as I game more on the 360 and the 2 consoles share a HDMI cable at present, it's annoying switching between them.

No mention of how much of this is paid for content, i suspect it's mostly 4oD, Youtube and other free content. I wonder how many other people will become disenchanted with this new focus on non-gaming content and whether it will impact launch sales for the next-gen Xbox

I don't mind the actual interface, just not what they've got in each 'window' and the order it's in - it's a lot more responsive than the old one for me though, but it's still not great. For balance I think the XMB is equally poor, especially in game - they need something the guide where you can just message and do a few things more quickly instead of constantly backing out of the messaging etc before I go back to the game.
Lovefilm/4OD was better than the PS3 versions, but I'm not renewing my Gold after four years, so I won't be experiencing them anyway. Either way, I don't like the direction MS is going in at all - forget RRoD, MS's hatred of making decent retail games is the reason I won't take a punt on the new xbox.
