Minecraft: Pocket Edition shifts 700,000 copies

Developer Mojang pleased with the game's early performance

Mojang's Minecraft: Pocket Edition has sold over 700,000 copies.

Daniel Kaplan, a designer on Pocket Edition and the upcoming XBLA version of Minecraft, said on Twitter (thanks, Gamasutra): "We have sold over 700 000 copies. That is quite impressive, since the game was launched almost two months ago."

Kaplan didn't specify if this was combined iOS and Android sales, or just one or the other, but the Android version launched in August and the iPhone and iPad one less than two months ago in mid-November, so it could just be copies sold on Apple devices.

Mojang said earlier this week that the full fat version of Minecraft now has over 20 million registered users, and that just over 4.6 million players have bought it.
