Finally, Capcom has announced Resident Evil 6 and released the first trailer which you can watch below.
"Blending action and survival horror, this latest instalment in the multi-million selling franchise is the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year," says Capcom.
The game is set 10 years after the events in Raccoon City. Capcom issues details on the plot: "It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity.
"Due to be by the President's side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision.
"At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world's population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left."
As reported earlier today, Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy will be the starring characters of the game, joined by "new characters" apparently "each with their own unique perspective and involvement".
The game's exec producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, said: "From the outset the team's intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers."
Capcom's Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing, commented: "Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series."
"The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world."

While I was hoping for a return to the series more horror driven roots I must admit this is looking impressive. It's good to see Leon returning and the multiple perspectives thing is intriguing if not overly familiar now thanks to Call of Duty. The resident evil games to me have always felt b movie (evil dead comedy horror)for one thing, from the camp and corny script too the over the top style of some of the monsters in the psone games. Granted they got more serious as gaming did (up until punching a bolder). You could also blow zombies up with a grenade launcher ...i know they were slower paced and had to do with exploration and had far more puzzles, but if thats what people want, the puzzles and exploring then surely that is a game style and not the genre? Now then...the gamecube remake to me did seem more survival horror however when people beg for the good old days to come back to me they are on about res evil 1 2 3 and not the remake.
I always found silent hill the scary actually survival horror as you had some real nasty twisted creatures with dark subtext and you were armed with a pipe.
Anyway i love me all styles of res evil so i can not wait for this.
And im also sorry as i am s**t at trying to explain my views

You have Leon, Chris and another male who could be Krauzer/Hunk/New character. Each of them seem to have they're own story, enemies and environment. This leads me to believe that Capcom will look for feedback on which storyline gamers preferred overall.
Of course the vast amount of COD players will throw that particular battle into Chris' favour as his storyline seems to be more action-y. And judging by the environment and the enemies he faces, Uroboros I think. His story won't take place in Tall Oaks.
As a lifelong fan of the series I, from what I've seen, will 100% prefer Leon's story as its reminiscent of RE2 and it looks like it will be bringing back the true feeling of horror and zombies. It does appear that there was a girl with Leon in that office and this makes me think we will have simultaneous stories once again, wonder who that new girl is?
The third male we see ,who could be Krauzer/Hunk/New character, apparently has a cure in his blood maybe because he is immune to the virus, but which virus is still unknown. My best guess for this story is that it will interlace with Leon's at some or several points during the game instead of being a separate entity. Also he seems to have problems with some of the larger BOW's in his story so my guess is that his is set inside a facility, probably pharmaceutical, and quite possibly within the boundaries of the city of Tall Oaks. Or maybe his story will interlace with Chris' or both, who know's?

Would love it to be HUNK but he never was infected with any of the viruses, definitely not Krauzer, you kind of ERADICATED him in Resident Evil 4, but then again Wesker survived but I highly doubt a series of bullets and an all mighty explosion is gonna bring him back, not matter how badass he is! This is not the direction I want to see the game going in. The fact that they said they'd be returning to more of a horror style game with this one and are still claiming that there is a horror aspect to the game is the ultimate slap in the face to the old school Resident Evil fans who were there at the beginning.
They need to go back to basics and create a full on horror game that'll have me jumping.
At this point i've completely given up hope of that ever happening!

We all want horror but in my opinion it just can not be pulled off in this generation of gaming, the standards are set too high in the survival-horror genre with previous gen games like resi 1 and silent hill 2 still scaring the s**t out of me to this day. Nothing has come close to the old days although them regenerators in 4 did scare me first time around.
Lets not hate on it right now lads, its still a long way away and more than likely it will be delayed til 2013. Pretty sure CAPCOM just slapped a 2012 release date on it to just hype it up as most major resi games get an early in the year release. My guess is between January and March. Either way lets wait til the game is released to love/loathe it.
