I only just finished Sonic CD today actually! Bought it the first day it was available on psn, it was one of the few Sonic games I hadn't played. Great to see it on top!

I was gutted when I discovered they'd taken the lyrics from the intro/ending. Still, it was great to finally play a good Sonic game again. I also entered a Sonic CD contest Sega were doing prior to the games release and won the soundtrack- contains the Japanese and American tracks, but all the lyrics to the Japanese songs are intact- so why not in the game? Bah.
Only got one achievement left to go...

I have the original MEGA CD version that you can just put into a cd player or console etc and listen to the soundtrack on which always make me sing along.
Taking it out of the re-release was dumb, but then so are sega so i guess its them being consistant.
Still happy i bought it again though, as i said its easily the best sonic, sega need to leave him alone now, they have totally killed this franchise, all the 3d ones are awfull, playing sonic generations made me want to cry it was so bad.
Bring back KID CHAMELEON........... Yeah!

Was Sonic Ganerations that bad? I've only played the demo because I refuse to pay for a game I only want to play half of though I was thinking about picking it up at bargain bin price. Never thought I'd say this but I agree, they should just put him out of his misery unless they seriously re-reboot the franchise and actually go back to what made the 2D games so good. They won't of course. And Sonic games still sell- just go to Deviantart if you want to see how large and obsessive (and at times utterly disturbing) the fans have gotten.
And congrats about still owning a Mega CD- I had one too- mainly for Sonic CD actually. Good to see one of the other 4 people who actually owned one...

I use to love sonic when I was a kid but revisiting these now just shows them up as awful.
Why don't sega actually give fans what they want and maybe rerelease shemue on LIVE/PSN?

I think the music in the Japanese version is different (and better) to the US and Euro versions. But all in all, you can't beat playing old games using the original format. I'm sure Sonic CD was on one of them SEGA collections on the PS2, and it played decent. Getting hold of the Japanese Mega CD version is the best bet, even if its the US or Euro version. Sonic on the Mega Drive is a pure classic, the best music in gaming history.

Sonic generations is very bad, the 2d parts still suffer from sega's decision to over animate sonic, its more like that awfull SONIC episode 1 that you can buy off of the psn network or xbox live...... YUKKY
To the person who asked about the Mega CD, i still have the original one i got when it hit the stores in the early 90's, since then i have amassed about 60 or 70 games for it and another 2 versions of the unit itself, i am a HUUUUUGE retro collector and horde everything without checking ive nearly got the full uk collection, just a few missing ones like SNATCHER to go but im not paying 150 quid for a mega cd game..... HEEEELLLL NOOOOO, it hardly gets played though because i like to keep everything in boxes and unmarked, i usually play roms through emulators if i want some old school fun. None of my other collections get unpacked it all just sits in 2 rooms gathering no dust..... I do clean it all, im not a bum lol lol lol.
Sonic CD to the best of my knowledge never made it onto the ps2 collections i have all of those things as well and a quick glance earlier didnt show up anything but i can look again if anyone cares enough lol.
The jap soundtrack was exactly the same as the UK one it was the USA version that had the awfull rock music..... urghhhhh The pc version also had this crap version too.... BOOOOOOOO
Sonics best days are so far gone its untrue, he served his purpose even though he was never made to be the official mascot for sega that honour goes to another character but i shall let you all have a guess as to who that was. Sega since the early 2000's have re-written their history but i have full collections of official and un-official mags from those periods ie MEAN MACHINES, C&VG, SEGA POWER etc so i knows the truth i tell theeeeee.
Right its 3.17 a.m and im tired, time for bed.
TOOT TOOT SONIC WARRIOR

UPDATE even though only i care lol lol
SONIC GEMS COLLECTION did indeed have Sonic CD on it, it has the US picture artwork on it though so im guessing its the dirty US version with the awfull rock soundtrack. My copy is still sealed so theres no way i can check this.
Its now 4.10 in the morning, i could not sleep not knowing this info, how completely sad am i
(hangs head in shame)

I too hang my head in shame for I (for a limited time) owned the Sonic Gems Collection on the Gamecube. The music was all wrong so my nostalgia trip was ruined. Ah, the Mega CD. Good times.
I'm blaming my lack of sleeping on this stoopid cold/flu thing. Thought it was supposed to make you more sleepy but no. Here I am on a gaming website talking about the life and death of a blue hedgehog. Oh dear.
Also- Sonic 4 is an abomination. But don't worry, Episode 2 has added Tails!

Sonic CD is great, only got to play it recently as I've never managed to pick up a mega cd, really cheap on xbla and worth probably more than they are selling it for!!
