The Entertainment Software Rating Board has classified Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PS3.

PlayStation Network re-releases via the 'PS2 Classics' section appear the safest bet, although HD updates would of course be nice.
Grand Theft Auto 3 was recently released for smartphones and tablets, while Grand Theft Auto 5 is expected to launch before April 2013.

Just hurry the Hell up with GTA V, R*!!
Playing through Saints Row has made me realise its been waaay too long since the last GTA and we need a release date, sooner rather than later, please!?

HD remake, yes please... ps2 version, no thanks.
if GTA III got tarted up for mobile, it would be a bit f**ked if the ps3 got a s**tty ps2 port.

Vice City HD would be nice, but let's face it, GTA has moved on leaps & bounds since that game and HD version wouldn't really cut it. I'm with Stonecold, GTA V release sharpish and make sure we get a Vice City expansion a year later.

Meh probably just a port. The real excitement would be if they actually incorparated the Rage engine.

Call me a whore all you like, but no trophies = no sale.
If they both do though, good lord I will s**t my pants.

Don't hurry up with GTA V Rockstar, take your time. I'd rather wait for a fun, great and lasting experience than have a drive from A to B, shoot, drive from A to B, go bowling and repeat one.
Even if they are HD then it wouldn't take time away from the development of V because they'll more than likely have somebody else doing them. Bluepoint Games for example.
Probably are just the normal PS2 versions though, a HD collection would hopefully include all 3 games.

Can't wait for this. The iPhone version was great, but I can't wait to get stuck back in with a dualshock. Throw in a platinum trophy or two, and I'm sold!

I'm in two minds about a GTA: VC HD port.
I wanted to play through Vice City again so I got it on steam but couldn't really play it because mapping dual stick support to a 360 pad was a nightmare and I made a right pigs ear of it, so a PS3 version would suit me fine so long as the controller is maped to modern style and not original style.
But do I really want to play through again or am I just looking through rose tinted sun glasses again?

Hopefully they are remixes of GTA3 and Vice City with revamped control schemes and graphics, the PS2 original's do not stand up well now when you play them. San Andreas, on xbox at least, could be released in the state it was and still be an excellent game, albeit a last gen game.

If they used the GTA IV engine for a Vice City HD then I'm out, as Bannatyne would say.
One of the main reasons why GTA IV sucked, in my opinion of course.

Hmm I found that SA has aged a bit poorly to be honest. It looked lovely at the time but it could really do with a nice bit of polish.

I'm sure the dead horse is shouting 'enough of the flogging' about now...
Yes, these games were great but every day spent on polishing these titles up for another release is a day less spent developing new content. And, unless they are completely rebuilt from the ground up, then a lot of modern day players will still face the frustrating past-gen mechanics albeit with prettier graphics.
I find it v odd that there's all this talk of next gen machines when the shops are increasingly full of past gen games...
....oooh, 200th post, yay me.

Just play the incredibly old PC versions. These HD re-releases only make sense if they were originally console only, otherwise it's just a cash grab. Pretty much any modern laptop can play these games in HD.
ensabahnur on 23 Jan '12 said:
Aye it could do with a wee graphical polish but the gameplay mechanics are still sound, it still plays well and we wouldn't really need that revamped. Whereas VC and 3 would be an absolute bugger to play nowadays.
gmcb007 on 23 Jan '12 said:
Oh yeah the controls are still top notch for SA. I haven't played VC in a while but I agree it would be definitely annoying to play with the old controls. I would love to see VC in the Rage engine.

saw you on my friends list whilst i was playing it yesterday, i love saints row 3 and it seems to have grabbed me a bit more than GTA 4 which i wasnt very keen on for some reason, maybe its the daftness in SR3 that has done it for me, theres some real 'laugh out loud' moments.... just for the record san andreas was the best GTA (gets into car and burns off before getting yelled at)..

If they're going to do it can they do it all ready. If not just hurry up with GTA V!

Full HD trilogy please, Sony.
The Bossman on 23 Jan '12 said:
They will have the same fun outdated gameplay as ever but will look TERRIBLE on our HDTVs, or 3DTV is you're rich. I only see the point in re-releasing old games when they're had a HD update with trophies, otherwise you're asking us to pay probably £10 or more for the same game, on top of whatever we spent for it all those years ago, probably £45. That is if this is even true.

I've loved every GTA, some more or less, and sometimes for different reasons. So bring on any GTA and I'll take it.
' course if it's Vice City it'll be even better.
Very_Silver_Ownz on 23 Jan '12 said:
I would love a HD collection of GTA 3, VC and SA. 3 of the best PS2 games on one disc. Still I wouldn't even mind if it was PS2 classics. Just having a chance to replay San Andreas on the PS3 is enough for me.
'' Whereas VC and 3 would be an absolute bugger to play nowadays. ''
Vice City is still playable for me at least as I still play it on the PS2 occasionally. Not as good as SA but still a great game. GTA 3 definitely hasn't aged well though.
ricflair on 23 Jan '12 said:
I've still got GTAIII, VC and SA on my PC. I bought VC after SA (maybe after IV actually!) and couldn't play it due to the controls! So yeah, put GTAIV's controls in it and I'd be keen.
Reeg you are a whore!

What's the likelyhood of the same songs being licensed for the radio stations? Wouldn't be the same with out them.
Houdini Splicer on 23 Jan '12 said:
If they're just re-releases then the songs are already licensed, I'm not sure if that applies if they have been done in HD though, but probably still the same

A HD remake of GTA III would be epic, although not very likely. But either way the game was such a joy to play back in the day that going back to it now might tarnish the experience somewhat.

I had a similar feeling with ICO. I didn't find that the HD version added much, besides I will always remember the original games within their environment, part of it being the console I played them on.
Plus I'm still mad at Sony for the absence of compatibility. Same for Jak & Daxter. I will see.
