Resistance: Insomniac explains series exit - 'It will live on with Sony'

Ted Price addresses fans via YouTube video

Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price has publicly responded to yesterday's news that the studio won't be making any more Resistance games.

Addressing fans via a YouTube video, Price said the developer believes the series has reached its "logical conclusion", but that doesn't mean the franchise won't continue with Sony.

"We believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story that we wanted to tell," he said.

"However, that doesn't mean that the Resistance franchise isn't continuing - it's already in the capable hands of Nihilistic and with Sony's shepherding we know that it will continue to live on and expand.

"We're excited as fanboys to see where it goes."

The studio's clearly keen to move on then, even if Insomniac writer Jon Paquette believes there's more to come from the Resistance universe. "I think it's still fertile ground," he told us last September as Resistance 3 released, pointing towards upcoming Vita title Resistance: Burning Skies, which is being handled by Nihilistic Software.

For the love of all that is holy Sony, do not give Resistance to Guerrilla Games.

But the story never finished at the end of Resistance 3?

Taste is subjective...although I sense you are just trolling.

3rd was the best of the three, really enjoyed it and if they could some how top that i'd buy another resistance title, and I wasn't a big fan of the first two games. There is alot more, i think that can be done in another resistance title, improving on the MP for one.

It kinda ended even if it was abrupt. The portal to the Chimeras world had been destroyed and the survivors were fighting against the remaining aliens and winning as the credits rolled. While it is open for more sequels by another developer, it still kinda ended the trilogy.

Kind of but my interpretation of it was more like SPOILER ALERT... "Right you've come home, but the world is still overrun by Aliens and mankind is almost extinct so pretty much how the game started was how it ended. Now what?" It was left in limbo and that's something I really hate within films and games especially if they aren't even sure if there will be a sequel - see Shenmue 2 and Hl2 Ep2.

All that I'll remember it for is R3 freezing within minutes of starting it then corrupting my 2 yr old hard drive wiping EVERYTHING!!! RESISTANCE CAN JOG ON FOR ME!!!!!

Probably not the greatest ending but it is a bit deeper than that. Two things happened at the end, the global cooling stopped and an anti chimera virus was developed. With the planet heating up again the chimera went into decline and they couldn't infect the immune humans. The human race was slowly recovering and the Chimera were retreating all over the world. R3 had a great little story running through it. Loads of potential for another trilogy branching off. What happened to pure chimera remains found in R2? What about the Cloven where did they go? Insomniac have left a nice little universe there for future developers.

I would just laugh my ass off if Resistance series eventually goes to Activision just like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot.

Yeah, I kind of remember a little bit more now reading your post. Still, the ending seemed rather abrupt to me and left a lot of unanswered questions. As you say though, plenty enough for another installment, if it was given to the right dev team of course and not turned into another cash cow. Hopefully that wont happen as I'd love for the franchise to continue.

All you had to do was install it and then update. If you updated it and then tried to install it, it wouldn't have corrupted your entire hard drive but merely your Resistance 3 data.

EDIT: Just to add, Resistance 3 is not the only game to do this.

Surely the real reason behind this is that Insomniac next game, of which very little has be revealed, is multi-platform and if they wish to continue with more multi-platform releases then they cannot do this with Resistance as Sony owns the IP.
