It's the first 3DS game to do so, reaching the milestone ahead of Mario kart 7, which has sold 4,540,000 copies.

The third best-selling Nintendo published 3DS game is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which has shifted 2,490,000 units.

Capcom's Monster Hunter 3G is also a million-seller on 3DS.

In comparison, DS titles New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS have sold 28,740,000 and 22,300,000 copies respectively.

Last year's Wii title The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has shifted 3,420,000 million copies globally. Wii Sports is Nintendo's best-selling game for the system, with 79,160,000 copies sold, ahead of Mario Kart Wii (31,910,000), Wii Sports Resort (29,870,000) and new Super Mario Bros. Wii (25,470,000).

Earlier today Nintendo announced plans to launch a new side-scrolling 2D Mario title for 3DS during its next fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2013.

Those are impressive numbers most likely better than cod and that is a multiplatform title. However, it's a shame that skyward sword (my goty) hasn't sold more. Each to their own, I guess.

Well deserved. It won't change anybody's world, but it makes great use of 3D and is an excellent platformer.

It's only been out 2 months and has outsold Majora's Mask and Wind Waker already.
