Syndicate demo out today

Co-op trial supports up to four players

EA's set to release a Syndicate multiplayer demo on Xbox Live and US PSN today.

As promised, the co-op trial will support up to four players and feature one of the nine levels due in the final game.

'Western Europe' sees you and your leather-clad chums infiltrate Cayman Global to assassinate Colonel Enrico Gabron and steal his technology blueprints. As you can see from the trailer below, it's a bit gorey.

Syndicate's set to release on February 21 in North America and February 24 in Europe for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

As a fan of the snes Syndicate, I'll definitely be having a slice of this. I just hope it lives up to the impossibly high expectations I have in my head.

Downloaded it and played a couple of games. I looks like with the right people from your friends list it could be a pretty good game.

However, the games I played were with randoms, and they were running around shooting everything in sight like it was Call of Duty. I picked the medic class, and I think everyone else just hit the buttons without looking at the class picks and were all soldiers. I was the last to die every time. You have to take each area very methodically. There are multiple routes through the maps that you can take, and you really have to communicate to get anywhere.

So....COD fans will hate it. Make sure you play it with people on your friends lists....communication and teamwork will see you through the demo.

Sounds like the usual experience with MP demos. Would have rather tried a SP demo to be honest.

I might be cutting my nose off to spite my face, but part of me just doesn't even want to try it. That they've changed one of the fondest memories of my Amiga playing youth into an FPS makes me cry a little inside.

I've never played the original (yet) but I was annoyed by this game's FPS choice because the devs admitted they're just another bunch hopelessly chasing after the 'CoD Dream'.

Well its kinda a MP demo so i'd say downloading it without a Gold sub would be pretty pointless.

I didn't think it would be possible that I'd be even more disinterested in this game, but I am. Chasing the CoD dream, did they say that? Oh dear...

I'll check it out but i'd have much prefered a single player demo.

When did they say that? They said they are making an fps because that's what they are good at.

  18. gmcb007 on 31 Jan '12 said:

It was something along the lines of that an FPS route was the only choice because of the present demand for them.

    Ahh yes, here it is:
    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/318785/syndicate-was-always-going-to-be-an-fps-starbreeze-responds/

"I don't want people to stop playing the old games, but time has moved on," he explained. "It was always going to be an FPS.

Not really a good explanation as to why it has to be an FPS. Ok, so they don't blatantly say they're going after COD but the whole mention of present gaming suggests they want to try and take that COD market again.

    But they also said:

Just because something is new doesn't make it an attack on your childhood. I find it odd that people hold a name so closely rather than the experience itself.

If EA wanted a new Syndicate RTS they cudda gone out and got a top RTS dev to make it, obviously they didn't, they got Starbreeze to make an FPS because FPS's are all the rage this generation, clearly a business move.

I don't think it's a "CoD Dream" situation, just EA knowing that there is far less demand for RTS's than FPS's (on consoles at least) these days so they go where the money is and hope to cash in on the name, hoping that fans of the "old" Syndicate games that have moved on to other genres (extremely possible considering the average gamer these days is around 35 years old) will return to "get the best of both worlds" so to speak (current trend tinged with nostalgia).

I know it may upset some people but a top RTS would sell less than a mediocre FPS (Homefront 2m anyone?) ON CONSOLES these days and EA know this.

EDIT: Personally I was impressed by the debut trailer, I've never played a Syndicate game, this is basically a new IP for me and I'm treating it as such, I can understand "old" Syndicate fans grievances though.

This x1000 (I frickin' loved my Amiga 500!)

Syndicate is one of the best games I have ever played, EA/Starbreeze have now bent it over and f**ked it senseless to make some quick cash, they should do the right thing and rename it "$¥ndicat£". As Prodigy from Mobb Deep once said "We don't make hits, we make classics" EA could learn a thing or two from that statement.

Just played the demo and i was not impressed.

It started in typical EA online style with 5 minutes of it saying servers full, cannot connect to game and getting in a lobby that doesn't actually ever load the game.

Then finally got into a game and it was just run, shoot, run some more, shoot, open a door with all of you together and shoot shoot shoot.
