XCOM: Enemy Unknown screens show third-person view

Along with some good old combat

XCOM: Enemy Unknown looks to be shaping up nicely, if this set of new screens is anything to go by.

The rebooted RTS being developed by Civilization masters, Firaxis, which is looking to maintain the spirit and feel of the original PC classic, while adding some slick graphics and destructible environments to the mix.

The studio has described the title as a "full-on strategy game that puts players in command of a global anti-alien defense force."

The new screens show a typical encounter and show off flanking, suppressing fire and vantage points, all key parts of securing victory in XCOM. Also pictured is the game's a tactical third-person viewpoint, which gives the player a different perspective to tackle the turn-based turmoil and get a better view of all the environment destruction.

Firaxis president Steve Martin recently said: "It's been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We're huge fans of the original game and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM."

Enemy Unknown is scheduled for release in Autumn 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Have a look at the full set of screens via the link below.

Never played the original X-Com games, but I'm really pumped to play a fun and deep turn based strategy game.

I'd like the PSN store to re-release the PS1 version of UFO:enemy unknown,so I can play it on my PSP.Got the disc version somewhere.Used to play it with the old PS1 mouse on PS1.A bit sluggish with the mouse but a good game.Had the Amiga CD32(remember that?) version too.

Every time I read or see some more screenies, I look forward to it a bit more. Hopefully it'll be the most faithful remake of any of them.

It would be good to play the original game again but i don't think it's aged very well. I was a bit disappointed when i downloaded and played Destruction Derby and Ridge Racer 4 from PSN having absolutely loved them at the time.
