This just highlights the fact that the PSP Vita is a bit too expensive, and that Game station Trade-in Prices are way too stingy.

Why would anyone want to give up there 320gb ps3 or 250gb xbox 360 and fork out £79.99 or £129.99 for a handheld which is vastly inferior to both

can shove those so called offers up their butts

Becasuse Gamestation clearly think us gamers are idiots, and have not got a clue that they are robbing us blind!

You can get one for £220 in tesco with the pre-order pack, I thought that was quite a good deal.

so I can get a handheld if I give up my console? And pay near enough a ton?
Might be a good deal for someone I guess

I can see the Vita launching with a whimper and a fart rather than a fanfare. There just inst enough interest in handhelds anymore to justify high prices. The original 3DS launch price proved that.
I would never trade in my 360 for a handheld such as the Vita, in fact I wouldnt even trade in my PS3 for it as I use it as a blu-ray player and media streamer.

I'd rather just wait 3 months for the better games to come out and the inevitable price drop.

If ever there was a console to NOT buy day one, it's the VITA
By this xmas, maybe even late summer once the usual lull hits the UK market and nobody buys anything then this console will hit 179.99 for the Wi-Fi model and 199.99 for the 3G version, also buy this time there will be a far better selection of games and at varying prices and best of all memory cards from other manufacturers will be available ie sandisk etc etc.
Let me once again for the tards on here who cannot read say that i really want this console but theres no way im paying day one prices, not now i know its been reduced in japan already, not based on 3DS price reductions (the last console release) not based on how i know for a fact that the UK market is terrible right now.
If you get one of these consoles day one then cool, good luck to you and golf claps all round for being a swell guy/girl but as god is my witness this machine will not succeed in the european territory at these prices in these times. For the money they are asking for the 3g version plus memory card etc you could get either a 360 250gb with some kick ass games or a ps3 320 gb with yet more kick ass games.
Handheld consoles no matter what the tech inside should never be more than home consoles, the original gameboy launched way back in 1990 took months to start selling until it got reduced to be less than the megadrive nes and master system, i know this because i was there selling all this stuff.
Best of luck to Sony with this machine and i promise i will get it when it hits the right pricepoint for me.... Thats 149.99-179.99. I have practically every console ever made and games still sealed from a year ago to still get through i can be patient with this one.
Also mass effect 3, darkness 2 and soul calibur 5 are near, like im ever going to get the chance to play anything else for a while anyway..... lol

Even if Gamestation threw in one of those ridiculously overpriced memory cards, the trade in so called deals are a rip off.

I'm going to wait for a price drop and/or redesign.
Agent75 on 31 Jan '12 said:
Hardly anyone has pre ordered one. The likes of GAME and Gamestation (and HMV...) are desperate to boost their profits, Sony are desperate to get the Vita off to a good start, but around £350 for one with 2 games and a memory card, is just daylight robbery. There will be a price drop soon, just like with the 3DS which has sold around 16 million units to date.

Well i'm getting one on the 22nd feb with game only 79.99 when i put in my dust collecting xbox 360 slim 250gb and i for one can't wait

I wonder if they'll trade my P(O)SP:Go for one.

£99.99 when u trade in a 3ds is actually very good when u take into account A) It (3ds) can be any condition as long as it works & has a stylus and charger. (u don't have to have a box) B) They are giving u £130 - which is the price they sell them for 2nd hand.
I pre ordered there yesterday

I shall trade my sons badly scratched aqua blue 3ds for it and he shall have my LE zelda 3ds. He's chuffed and so am I.
DAEDALUS79 on 31 Jan '12 said:
Already pre-ordered mine from shopto, tad under £250 for the console and fifa

My PS3 for 80 quid? HA HA HA! Too funny!
Why not a Gameboy?
billysastard on 31 Jan '12 said:
or we can just wait a few months and buy one at that price from the bargain bin.
Slim-Cognito on 31 Jan '12 said:
I don't know why everyone is moaning at the price, if you don't want one don't buy one! I traded in my DSlite for a 3DS at GAME in October and it cost me £70, I'm now trading in my 3DS for a Vita and getting £130 for it! And with 25% extra on DS and 3DS game trade ins, i'm getting £90 for my 4 games! So a Vita for a tenner? Oh go on then
KK-Headcharge78 on 31 Jan '12 said:
Why would someone try to blame Gamestation for offering these deals??? They are not as f**king charity, if anyone deserves the blame then blame Sony as the very fact these deals exist highlights the very luke warm feeling about the Vita's release, a price drop in Japan, these bundles in the USA and now this....... Watch that price tumble in the next 12 months.
flyfletch on 31 Jan '12 said:
Yes, very true, no one said they are a charity, but they are clearly ripping people off, there is a fine line between profit and profiteering!
theideal on 31 Jan '12 said:
Of course the price will tumble in the next twelve months. That's just the nature of hardware nowadays.
These sorts of trade in 'deals' appear with every new hardware launch, it's not specific to Vita. Christ, you can even trade in your ipod/ipad/iphone towards any console you want at Gamestop over here.
They happened for the PS3, they happened for the 3DS and they'll happen again in a few months for the Wii U. It's just that these Gamestation prices seem like a bit of a p**s-take.
Pokeymike on 31 Jan '12 said:
"Yeah. Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I may have a better one. How about, I give you the finger, and you give me my Vita?"

@Megatrons_fury
Good post before all the usual dribble in between. I'd just like to add that people so volitile about the price of the Vita must understand the pricing cycle of a games consoles a little better.
As with any new hardware, be it tv, hi-fi, digital radio, games console or mobile phone the initial price point will always start higher than the majority want. This is to ensure that the early adopters pay back as much as possible to the manufacturer.
I am one of those early adopters and always have been and will continue to be as long as the hardware interests me. I am a gamer and have no grudge to bear that someone willing to wait six months will buy the same item at a reduced cost. Likewise though I think those who can't justify the initial cost of items (the Vita in this case) should be patient without the need to complain at the manufacturer for trying to regain money from their investment. Also they shouldn't be too quick to judge first day buyers, as without us makers like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo wouldn't reach as high, tech would be stripped back and less advancement would occur.
(None of that was aimed at you Megatrons_fury as I understand your valid points of view)

80 - 100 is around the price I'd consider picking one of these up WITHOUT having to trade in my PS3 or Xbox.
I'm sure it has it's place in the market for hardcore handheld gamers, but my phone plays games that are good enough for me on the move - portable handhelds no longer float my boat. Plus £30 - £40 for games?? And then Memory card cost for downloads??
I don't see this going very well for Sony at all.
