Capcom has reported a disappointing set of financials for the nine months ended December 31, 2011.

In the firm's flagship games business, sales declined 41.3 percent to 31,721 million yen (£263.5m), while operating income fell 54.1 percent to 5,943 million yen (£49.4m), "due in part to the reaction to the release of multiple flagship titles during the same term previous year".
The publisher said Monster Hunter 3G for 3DS sold over a million copies "to achieve its projected sales", while Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and Dead Rising: Off the Record 'fared well mainly overseas'.

LOL @ Monster Hunter selling more than Dead Rising and UMVC3. Even Capcom are taking a hit here. Well, look on the bright side. At least when DMC and Raccoon City flop the worst of your troubles are over.

TBH i'm not surprised. Capcom have been relying on updated games far too much recently and obviously there will be people who will not accept this. Dead Rising 2:OTR, Ultimate MvC3 and the 2 Streetfighter updates have not sat well with gamers as they could have been DLC. Also their DLC record hasn't exactly been full of shining gems, charging £4 for costumes isn't exactly gamer friendly.
Plus the fact they seem to be farming some of their well known franchises out to western developers hasn't gone down well with those who love the Japanese style of those games.

But RE6 hasn't been released yet?
But seriously, ensabahnur has pretty much summed it up.

Yet the irony is that Capcom has been going crazy with it's del boy money schemes recently. They had it coming .

Profits down is bad but better than a loss. Some shady DLC decisions aside I like Capcom as a company.

I hope Crapcom die out, I'm still bitter over them releasing UltimateMvsC3 less than a year after MvsC3.

Since the Dreamcast, CAPCOM has released a lot of the same, some of which has been trash. Resident Evil is now a joke franchise. I'm trying to think back to the last time they actually released a classic. I think the last game I enjoyed was maybe Onimusha 2 on the PlayStation 2. I'm not surprised one bit by this news.

So every Japanese company is doing badly?
And do yen know why?
(That sounded funnier out loud.)

Capcom relying on updated versions of their franchises. Oh no I didn't expect that after their millionth Street Fighter II

Capcom should consider reviving some old IPs like Forgotten Worlds and Captain Commando. We need sequels like Strider 3 and PowerStone 3!

As a bystander, all I've seen is what appeared to be the same game released over and over and over coupled with p**sing on the franchises that were doing well. This doesn't surprise me whatsoever, surprised it took so long actually. Note that I don't mean that in a spiteful way just a sort of sad but realistic way.

resi 6 and st x tekken will be major for them, expect their profits to sore this year, but yeah what the guy said in the earlier post summed it all up already.

I am not sold on SFxT, especially with their Gem system and from what i hear, many many DLC characters to be released later to cash in, not to mention Gem packs. Def not sold at all.
What they need to do is release older IPs that were profitable at one point. What happened to Breath of Fire? That was a good RPG series! Same with MegaMan Legends and anything MegaMan thats not a complete troll to the face. Some Strider or...I dunno, but anything but more of the same. I love my SF more than anything, but they need to stop with the BS DLCs, and start putting out some real games that won't Cash(com) in with stupid s**t down the road.

Is it really so much of a surprise. With maybe a handfull of exceptions, they have done nothing but re-release titles lately;
- Dead Rising 2
- Marvel vs Capcom 3
- Street Fighter 4
And if it hasnt been an 'enhanced' re-release, its porting a game to a hand-held;
- Monster Hunter 3G
- Street Fighter 4 3D
(Also the PSVita version of Street Fighter x Tekken thats on the way)
Just seem surprising at all...

I'm sorry but hasn't anyone else noticed that the picture they've used makes it look like Frank West is about to give a zombie a bum shafting with a massive purple dildo? It's like a crossover into SR3 territory. I'm surprised Frank hasn't got the camera in his other hand.

Dear Capcom,
Fancy some easy money? Simply make a new Powerstone game and start publishing some more off beat titles like Killer 7 and stop shovelling poor value DLC on us asap.
Signed,
Me

Wouldn't that make theirfinancial situation worse?
Granted I love the games you've mentioned and would love more of them but they hardly dominated games charts previously so in the current FPS climate I doubt they'd do any better with another chance.
Noobsaibot on 3 Feb '12 said:
Powerstone would do really well I'd say. Fair point on Killer 7 though Catherine is proof that mature, contemporary, sophistimication can sell somewhat reasonably. As for rip off DLC, I don't like the idea of paying for ANY DLC considering it was all free on PC a few short years ago. Fair enough for significant expansions such as RDR and GTA IV but for costumes? Announced before the game even launches? Why have so many shrugged their shoulders as this gaming industry development?
