Eat Sleep Play boss man David Jaffe has confirmed that the EU version of Twisted Metal has not only been delayed, but will also see cuts and changes to its content.

"I heard March 1," said Jaffe on the revised launch, rather uncertainly.
With regards to the changes in the EU version of the game, Jaffe says that while none of the cuts effect the story or core gameplay it seems like SCEE has toned down the game's more extreme violence.
"For example, in the scene we've released on the net from the intro- where the girl stabs Tooth in the eye- the SCEE version has this but we cut away right before the scissors make contact with Tooth's face," explains Jaffe.
In another example, Jaffe says, "I think the guy on the gurney from Meat Wagon is dead so you are exploding a corpse covered with TNT vs. a screaming man trapped to the gurney. Sucks on my end but at the same time, I get it and the game play isn't different and the intent is still there, as is the humor."
The full statement is over on NeoGAF.
If this infuriates you, there's always the option of importing the US version, which launches as planned on February 14 with all the eye-stabbing, man-exploding content you need. PS3 games are, after all, completely region free.
The Twisted Metal playable demo released on PSN this week.

okay, but was SCEE made to did this? if it was not going to pass censorship then fair enough, but if it was, is this needed?

Im assuming that this affects the Australian version too, great. just as long as it isnt banned!
I f**king loved the s**t outta the demo, it more than meets my expectations so far. Which is something I havent said about a game in a LONG time. I found myself turning off MW3 just to play the demo over & over! Ive been waiting for a game to grab me like this. Welcome back Twisted Metal, its been too long:)

Probably very little to do with the UK. It's an EU release and other countries are much heavier on censorship, especially Germany as RicFlair pointed out. If it was purely a UK release it would liekly be the same as the US version.

Quite relieved they've done this to be honest. I'm so impressionable that if I actually witnessed a cartoonish depiction of an old guy strapped to a gurney being used as a rocket...I'd probably attempt it in reality because I have this crushing inability to differentiate fantasy from reality, even when fantasy requires a Dualshock.
So at the end of the day our sensibilities and delicate moral code is intact. Now please excuse me I need to go and blow up a small girl on MW3 and then kill an airport full of innocents in MW2.

why can't they just censor the German version then? why do all EU versions get censored for one country?
if it's being Censored in the EU though, i wonder about what is going to happen in Australia, will it be banned completely? or will they also get the censored version? if they get the uncut version without a fuss I vill be peessed!

On the positive side, I'll be saving £40 by not buying this watered-down game

Wow way to kick you while you're down. Isn't the whole point of TM to be violent? Censoring it is a bit like removing the ball from Fifa.

That is quite poor, after playing the demo i was getting into it and was considering maybe picking it up. The question has to be asked though why can we play games with full body dismemberment, at our own control, but have to have a cut-scene censored when it depicts some violence?
Was the eye poke machine segment from Dead Space 2 censored in Germany? What about the bit where Struass is holding the scewdriver with Ellies eyeball and then Issac jams it into Struass's head, was that censored?
Or is this just SCEE playing it safe?

I think that all European games are the same, with all the languages/subtitles/speech etc on the disk and will play it in your chosen language. They don't, as far as I'm aware with most games, produce an version for every language in Europe, they just change the box art etc, the discs are the same.

I still find it hilarious that the Germans dictate what's right and wrong, violent etc. these days
