THQ has announced that 4A Games' first-person shooter sequel Metro: Last Light won't be released until calendar year 2013.

According to the firm's latest release schedule, which was published alongside its third quarter financial results last night, the Metro 2033 sequel is now planned for release during the fourth-quarter of financial year 2013, meaning between January 1 and March 31, 2013. It was originally pegged for release at the tail end of this year.

Prior to the game's official announcement, THQ core games boss Danny Bilson said he believed the shooter had what it takes to 'compete with Call of Dutys'.

Metro 2033 did look a bit indie at times and kinda looked strange against high end PC visuals which can accentuate bad area of graphics more than the 360 version would, good horror shooter though

I guess they need more time to make the game easier to play and appeal to the COD crowd, by adding non stop action, more kills per second, bigger weapons, regenerating health, limitless ammo, dual wielding and endless on screen prompts for everything from points for kills, style and scratching your arse.

Bugger. Just waiting for Bioshock to get delayed now.

Actually, hang on a second. Will THQ even be around in 2013 to ship the game?

The closer Metro: Last Light is released to Bioshock, the less I'll consider picking it up.

I'm really looking forward to this and if the delay means a better game I'm more than happy to wait.
