Warhammer 40K MMO still alive, but THQ seeks help

Troubled publisher wants financial assistance to bring Dark Millennium to market

Warhammer 40000: Dark Millennium Online is planned for release during the year ended March 31, 2014, but the MMO will seemingly only see the light of day if THQ finds a financial partner to team up with.

Speaking to investors in the publisher's third quarter investor conference, THQ CEO Brian Farrell explained (via Gamasutra): "Because of the large financial commitment and associated risks, we are being realistic about our resources and we are actively seeking a partner for this compelling new MMO.

"We will keep you updated on our progress," he added.

The game is being developed by THQ studios Vigil Games (Darksiders) and Relic Entertainment (Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Space Marine).

Last May THQ chief financial officer Paul Pucino said the MMO would receive a production budget at the "high-end of a core game... Somewhere in the area of $50 million or so to get these games to market, certainly in that range for Dark Millennium."

The MMO has now been in development for five years, according to THQ core games boss Danny Bilson, who has said he expects it "to be a masterpiece".

I'd prefer to put my money on 200-1 outsider..... the way THQ's games have retailed the past few years.

I can see EA sweeping in like a vulture on this one, possibly waiting till THQ are at breaking point and taking over the company to take over it's IP catalogue.
